  3. Messerschmitt Me 109E-3

    Messerschmitt Me 109E-3
    4. Staffel, II. Gruppe, JG 77
    Pilot: Oberleutnant Helmut Henz (Staffelkapitän)
    Poland, September 1939
Profile & Extract from Ipmsstockholm.org .Here is a Me 109E-3 in the original camouflage scheme used up until after the invasion of Poland, namely a splinter pattern of RLM70 Schwarzgrün and RLM71 Dunkelgrün on top and coming right down the fuselage sides, with RLM65 Hellblau underneath. The identification number and II.Gruppe marking are white as is the spinner, all indicating the 4.Staffel.
The yellow nose paint was first introduced on 109's during the Polish campaign as a recognition marking to avoid "friendly" fire from the Wehrmacht when operating on ground strafing missions; I have read that the Luftwaffe lost more 109's this way in Poland than were actually lost in combat, and hence the yellow became the much used ident colour in future offensive campaigns. The shield with seagull badge of II.Gruppe JG 77 was on both sides, but the "Grim Reaper" badge of 4.Staffel was only on the left side. Note the small size of the early thin style of cross and original position of the swastika.
In addition to the oil and fuel triangles this aircraft also shows the red cross on white square marking on the rear fuselage hatch where the first-aid medical kit was stowed.
I had to skin it on a E4 seeing we dont have a E3 ,The only thing i could`nt get what i wanted was the swastika in the right place(read above it was more central on the tail in early markings according to the profile) due to the void mapping ( it dont come out right ). ive used jesters excellent template again ( many thks) theres also a no markings skin (with grim reaper) in the download. Bright finished.......buglord

  11. B29 ESSO EXPRESS

B29 ESSO EXPRESS of the 468th BG . Formed at Smoky Hill Army field, Salina, Kansas, in September 1943 as one of the first B-29 groups, the 40th, 44th, 468th and 462nd Bomb Groups constituted the 58th Bombardment Wing (VH). The 'VH' designation stood for 'Very Heavy' Bombardment. This aircraft was the 29th production Superfortress and was delivered in Olive Drab/Neutral Grey camouflage. Stripped of armament it was used to haul fuel 1200 miles from India to the Advanced Base a Pengsham, Szechuan Province, China, hence the name 'Esso Express' . Well all i can say is the void for this is very hard to work with, its a lot worse than the HE111 , for example the mission tally on the nose is not 100% straight due to the mapping of the void also theres a section under the rear fusalage that cant be corrected believe me i spent hours trying on that bit alone its ok if your making a bare metal skin but if your doing camo work it takes ages to get it all properly correct well anyway i started from fresh from making my own template to the completed skin i even done the nose art freehand, also this aircraft only had one engine painted white but again due to the void theres only one engine to paint so they all come out the same it also had a white leading edge on the wings which i have blended in with the weathering, all insignias in the right places too. Bright finished, theres also a no markings skin as requested. Enjoy :)

  14. He111 H-6 of Stab StG3

    He111 H-6 No: S7+ZA of Stab StG3
Derna airfield, North Africa , September 1941. This airplane painted in desert camo on the top RLM 79, and RLM 78 on the bottom. The letter 'Z' painted in blue, signifies this aircraft belongs to a Headquarter battalion. The white ring around the fuselage and white tipped wings served as a quick identifying markers in the Mediterranean Arena between 1941-43.
Ive used Jutocsa`s template (MANY THANKS) as a starting point added camo, weathering , rust ,etc but i found it difficult to get some areas on this aircraft in the right proportion ie the german markings on the fusalage which was a nightmare , but i finally got it right after hours of trying. Theres also a no markings version in the download. Bright finished
