  1. This was a design decision. ThirdWire sims are player-centric, meaning that they are designed so that the player is always at the center of the action. If there were heavy Allied air defences, many of the enemy flights would be shot down before the player had a chance to do it himself (remeber--the games don't support flying for the red side out of the box, so this isn't a problem unless you mod the games). Its not realistic, obviously, but it is in keeping with the action-oriented nature of the games.
  2. Can't believe no one's seen this snippet

What are they going to do about the fact that Top Gun doesn't exist in the same sense that it did when the first movie was made?
  3. WOW! That is one hot mod! PS - Oli has controlling legal authority for MF stuff but I don't see any reason why he would decline.
  4. We will get out a small update for the D and E to fix that problem. No ETA but hopefully soon. Sorry for the oversight.
  5. The Mirage Factory is proud to release the next in the F-8 Crusader series, the F-8B and F-8J. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=6351 http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=6350
  6. Fighting the terrorism...

I wonder what a real general like Curtis LeMay would say about this?
  7. Happy Birthday To....

That doesn't really narrow down the list of things he shouldn't do...
  8. True, sound tactics overcome disadvantages. Great points. When the planes are ready, it will be fun to run some "what-if" scenarios. A possible counter-tactic would be for the Soviets to attack from well below the US bombers, forcing the Voodoos (not sure what kind of lookdown capability they had) to come down to engage them where the Voodoos disadvantages would be more of a factor.
  9. This is the second time in five years that I have agreed with you on something. Armageddon approacheth.
  10. Sorry man it just burns me when people cop this "let them eat cake" attitude.
  11. While I am generally in agreement with my colleague Wrench, The, I think that once a mod is released under a fair-use license it should be impossible to revoke that license. To allow that would defeat one of the major goals of the program, which is to ensure long-term availability and continuity. I'm only one voice though so there would have to be a general consensus on the matter, and the CA ownership would probably have to issue an official policy.
  12. Thanks guys, you are tops.
  13. This situation only highlights the disdain that capun and some of his ego-stroking jackals have for the community. There was no reason for them to do what they did other than to attempt to control people and force them to beg for access to their site. It amazes me that anyone would lick their boots in that way. As a long-term strategy, it would be good if we, as a community dedicated to having fun, could replace as many of their models as possible with new, fair-use models available to everyone without restriction on use and without the need to kiss buttock and pass "screening" to get them. The more we can marginalize them (capun and charlie, mainly) the better things will be for everyone, as innocent users won't have to go through this sort of nonsense.
  14. Who is your best male lead vocalist?

    Yes. Definately underappreciated.
  15. Yeah, F-101 is a very interesting story for those that haven't read much about it. It was designed to SAC requirement for a long-range escort fighter, but SAC phased out that requirement in the late 1950s and all SAC fighter wings transferred to TAC. Its just as well, because the F-101 stood no chance in a fight against MiG-19s and 21s due to its heavy weight, lack of maneuverability and dangerous departure tendency at high AoA. So the F-101A and F-101C went to TAC and the only role they could fill was as a nuclear bomber. That was the responsibility of the F-101s stationed in England. The Voodoo really didn't find a niche until the interceptor and recon versions were developed, where its high speed and excellent rate of climb were taken advantage of.

  18. Who is your best male lead vocalist?

I think Sting is among the best male vocalists. Also Peter Gabriel.
  19. Got iPhone?

ANyone get their 3G iPhone? I had to wait about an hour and a half but was able to get one at my suburban AT&T store. The online activation is down right now though. Silly Apple...
  20. Got iPhone?

So far, battery life has not been a problem and it seems quite durable. Apple has done a good job on previous products making them scratch resistant, and the iPhone seems like it is going to be as good as my 5th Gen iPod in that respect. I got to use the GPS functionality yesterday and it was very convenient. I was driving around to various auto parts stores looking for a gasket, and had been unsuccesful at AutoZone and Advance. I pulled up the YellowPages app, clicked the "target" button to get it to geo-locate me, then searched for auto parts and got a list of the stores closest to my current location. Was very nice!
