From: Actual Air to Air Refuelling in YAP 2?
column5 replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
In theory you could make it burn fuel at such a low rate (possibly 0) as to be inconsequential. However there seems to be a problem when setting up a second engine for this purpose, in that it does not give you the +fuel effect like when you change the afterburner fuel consumption on a single engine. It would need some more testing a tweaking to see if it will actually work. Going to leave that for some other enterprising lad. -

Not sure really...I've never tried it...but... [Engine] SystemType=JET_ENGINE InputName=THROTTLE_CONTROL <-- Maybe this can be changed to something else (possibly THRUST_VECTOR_CONTROL?) EngineID=2 ... -

EXPOSED! So what you need to do is edit the engine section your aircraft data INI: TSFCM0=0.725 TSFCM1=1.175 AfterburnerTSFC=-1.900 <-- Make this a negative value MinFuelFlow=-2.00 <-- Make this a large negative number When you do this you'll see normal fuel usage until you engage AB, and then you'll see yourself gaining fuel. I think with a little elbow grease you could set up a dummy engine with no thrust, and configure the throttle settings so that it engaged AB at a specific RPM (say, 57% or some other number that you are unlikely to cruise at). Then any time you set your throttle to 57% it would be as though you are refueling. There may be other, better ways to implement turning the "feature" on or off but I'll leave that to someone else to figure out. So yeah...not the second coming or anything but a nifty trick that some might enjoy. -

At first glance, you can use negative values for TSFCM and fuel flow and it will cause you not to consume any fuel. Does not lead to an increase in total fuel, though. The trick might not be down that path (or it might...needs to be tinkered with). -

Just thinking about it off the top of my head... There is no facility to transfer fuel from one aircraft to another, so the tanker aircraft is just for show. There are a couple of ways to add or remove fuel from an aircraft, but because the gauge counts up incrementally instead of jumping up by a certain amount, I think the trick has to do with fuel flow, and it makes me wonder if the game will accept a negate value for TSFCM. If you could set up a subsystem with a negative specific fuel consumption and if you could toggle it on and off, you could create this effect. It will be interesting to try and reverse engineer. -

Five years ago, a small group of us who bought into TK's vision began working intensively to create aircraft, cokpits, skins and other content for the series. The pace has never let up, and the number of mods available is astounding. People have come and gone, leaving a huge library for the community. Years ago when the community is small, a tradition started whereby we would check with other modders before using any of their work in new projects. It was gentlemanly and promoted goodwill and cooperation. The policy has served us well, but I think we have outgrown it. There are so many files out there, and so many people have come and gone, that it no longer promotes close relationships, but stifles creativity and growth. I would like to ask all modders to consider this, and if you agree, join me in the following decision. From this point on any work that is attributable solely to me, such as skins, flight models, etc. is free to be used with only two requirements. First, please don't use my work as part of a payware product, and second, if feasible please put a link to www.column5.us in the readme if you used any of my original work. You DO NOT have to contact me or ask for permission. If my work can contribute to other creative projects, I want you to go for it. This of course applies only to work for which I am the sole author. Things on my site credited to others, and Mirage Factory projects (I can't and won't speak for the entire MF team in this matter) are not included. -

The good news is that replacing the lifters on a GM V8 is not that hard. Maybe $50 for a set of lifters plus new intake manifold gaskets. Another thing you might do is set the valve lash (the lash is usually 1 turn past 0 with hydraulic lifters, but you still have to set it). You could have one or more with too much play. I started a thread for my new 383 build here. I'll post as it progresses with whatever I learn. Definately keep us updated on your project. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=25924

The original FM is pretty much in the trash. The new one for WOI will replace it when the patches are released and should fix all problems. -

If you are concerned about this issue, you really should post on the ThirdWire forum becuause TK is the only person that can give a definitive answer. We should not be speculating on it, regardless of how interesting it may be. -

The problem with using Destineer's boilerplate to make that statement is that ThirdWire is the actual holder of the rights to the core game files, including many files which ThirdWire sells in other products not produced by Destineer, including SFP1 and WOI. Plus, no one is ever going to enfoce it and TK says he supports both freeware and payware that leverage the "open" portions of his game. So I'm not sure exaclty what your point is...but...I agree with you that we can't take ThirdWire's files and "re-license" them in a legal sense because we don't actually own them. This is really about how we are going to operate as a community, not a legal matter. -

Boilerplate. I'll take this into account the next time I make "levels" for WOV. -

I don't know off the top of my head but that does not sound like something TK would have allowed. -

Only on the surface...only on the surface...some continue to seethe and plot and we must be vigilant lest daggers creep into our backs. -

A-Team will not. You can be certain of that. Mirage Factory will discuss it. We have a lot of people involved who must all agree, and Oli has the final say as our team leader. Some may not be ready to take this step. 50-50 chance right now probably, so don't be disappointed if it does not happen immediately. -
Has anyone else managed a PIO in WOI?
column5 replied to Heck's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The first time it happened to me was after we got the first beta, I was flying the Kurnass coming off of a strafing run over an Egyptian airfield. I had quite a bit of alpha on the plane, used the aileron to roll off (a big no-no in the F-4) and wound up in an inverted flat spin from which I barely recovered. I knew that WOI was about to be a smash at that point. :) -

Good plan, we can let this thread run a bit until everyone has their say, then compile the results. -
