  1. DCS World Summer Sale! Our DCS World Summer Sale will only last seven more days, and this will be our last e-Shop sale until the end of 2018. If there is a module you have your eye on, now is the time to act. Save 50% off on most DCS World titles from our e-Shop! Summer Sale Trailer Get great savings now at DCS World e-Shop DCS World Open Beta to Release This week we made the big step of updating the release, "stable" version of DCS World from our current DCS World Open Beta version. Not only does this bring all modules to the release version of DCS World (like the Hornet and Persian Gulf Map), but it also integrates many fixes and updates that have been addressed in the Open Beta over the past several weeks. Some highlights include: Support for new campaigns Added new USS John C. Stennis aircraft carrier Implemented initial version of video memory manager Added new OFFLINE mode Added China Pack Added moon light effects Added Static Object templates A-10C flood lights corrected Updates to the Normandy 1944 Map Added the new World War II Asset Pack units Corrected tail wheel behavior for the Spitfire Many improvements and fixes to the AV-8B Harrier N/A, M-2000C, MiG-21bis, C-101, SA342 Gazelle, Hawk T1, and Flaming Cliffs 3 aircraft You can read the complete, lengthy change log in the dedicated thread. Next week will bring an update that includes many additions and improvements to our Hornet. DCS: Black Shark 2 – 2018 Trailer In 2011 we released DCS: Black Shark 2, which is still the most authentic simulation of the Russian Ka-50 attack helicopter. Seven years later, the Ka-50 is still one of the most fun and exciting aircraft to fly in DCS World. With the graphical and updated world (like the new tree system and grass) that DCS World 2.5 brings, the Ka-50 is better than ever. To highlight just how great the Ka-50 is to fly in DCS World 2.5, we’ve created an updated trailer video. Later this year, we’ll also be updating the Ka-50 cockpit (and A-10C!) to use our very latest graphic technologies. Black Shark 2, 2018 Trailer Purchase the Ka-50 now at 50% off F/A-18C Pilot Explains How to Land on a Carrier in DCS World Former F/A-18C Hornet pilot Lex Talionis talks about his experience flying and landing a Hornet in DCS World, and he shares his thoughts on PC flight simulations, virtual reality, and being a real Hornet pilot. Sincerely, The Eagle Dynamics Team
  2. http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/21790/f-a-18-pilot-gives-incredibly-detailed-instructions-on-how-to-actually-land-on-a-carrier Landing a fighter aboard a pitching and rolling carrier deck is one of the most challenging exercises in all of aviation. Just the idea of bringing a jet safely back to the boat, in potentially terrible conditions, after an already stressing mission has long captured the imagination of the entertainment industry and the public at large. We have even published a first-hand account of how this process occurs in the dark of night and how challenging mastering it can be. But now, thanks to Digital Combat Simulator—better known as DCS—the most realistic realization of this experience ever available to the public can be had for $79, or about 1/230th the cost of a single Hornet flight hour. And with the help of a former Hornet pilot, you too can learn to master this elite skill—or at least understand its complexities better than ever before.
  3. Interesting they have started this terrain....looks suspiciously like the Malvinas/Falklands although no sign of any of the aircraft that flew in that yet. So I guess chocks away in the Spitfire for a few years if it happens LOL
  4. Persian Gulf Map for DCS World, Now Available! We are excited to announce that the Persian Gulf Map for DCS World is now available for download. This is our first modern-day combat theater outside of the Caucasus map, and it will provide many interesting and engaging historical and hypothetic scenarios. To purchase this new map for DCS World, please visit DCS e-shop. Please note that the Persian Gulf Map early access release is only for DCS World 2.5 Open Beta. Once the map becomes final, it will be available in the DCS World 2.5 Release version. The Persian Gulf Map for DCS World focuses on the Strait of Hormuz, which is the strategic choke point between the oil-rich Persian Gulf and the rest of the world. Flanked by Iran to the North and western-supported UAE and Oman to the south, this has been one of the world’s most dangerous flash points for decades. It was the location of Operation Praying Mantis in 1988 in which the US Navy sank several Iranian naval vessels. The region also includes the vast Arabian Sea that is well-suited for combat aircraft carrier operations, and it will be an amazing area of operations for the upcoming Hornet and Tomcat. Be it from land bases in Iran, UAE and Oman, or from the deck of an aircraft carrier, the Persian Gulf Map offers a wide array of combat mission scenarios to prove your mettle. Key Features: 201,000 sq km highly detailed map area that centers on the Strait of Hormuz. As part of DCS World 2.5, this map include highly detailed terrain, textures, seas, and buildings. 17 accurately created airbases in Iran, the UAE and Oman. Airbases include a variety of landing aids that can include TACAN, VASI lights, realistic approach lights, and VOR. Detailed cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Bandar Abbas with unique buildings. "Strong Hold" islands such as Abu Musa, Siri, and the Tunb islands. Iran, the UAE and Oman will be added to the list of DCS World nations. Unique trees, bushes, grass and other vegetation using speedtree technology. Varied terrain from towering mountains and valleys to desert plains. New map objects like super tankers, cargo ships, pleasure craft, and dhows. New Iranian liveries for ground and air units. Map expansion coming soon with Kerman and Shiraz airbases in Iran. 5. DCS World 2.5.1 Open Beta Release The first version of the video memory manager is implemented. This function will purge the video memory when the budget allocated by Windows is reached. Resources that were not used in the last 10 seconds are the first to be purged. The new OFFLINE mode is now implemented. Users can turn on the OFFLINE mode which permits the game to be used without internet identification and without a time limit. Note: users must turn off the OFFLINE mode on the same PC. OFFLINE mode cannot be turned off from another PC even with the same user login. In addition to many important bug fixes, 2.5.1. also offers updated night lighting. As always, we look forward to your feedback and suggestions. Purchase in the DCS e-shop DCS: F/A-18C Hornet Update Matt and Nick are currently in Minsk and Moscow where work on the Hornet and ancillary units is progressing well. Work has started on the management of aircraft on the CVN-74 carrier deck. Departing aircraft will appear in certain parking and elevators positions and will taxi on to the catapults. Recovering aircraft will taxi to free parking spaces. Subsequent aircraft will go to the elevator and de-spawn. On the deck it will be possible to place static objects (aircraft, equipment, loads). For this purpose we'll provide some new possibilities in the mission editor. A little later, we will show you pictures and videos of this in action. 6. DCS World 2.5.1 Update Version 2.5.1 for DCS World is currently in external testing and includes the new Offline Mode and improved memory management as its primary features. Now that it has been built, our valued 3rd parties are updating their aircraft to operating in version 2.5.1. Once this is complete, we will first move this version to the DCS World 2.5.1 Open Beta branch. Until we can release 2.5.1 with improved memory management, we suggest looking at your System Options in DCS World. One setting that has been found to help out considerably is the Preload Radius setting, cutting that value in half can make a huge difference in load times for multiplayer servers, we suggest tweaking this setting and find what works best for you. DCS: F/A-18C Hornet Update Since the last Hornet update, the flight model continues to be refined; Air Combat Maneuvering (ACM) radar modes now auto-lock targets; the ground suspension model has been refined for landing and taxi behavior; a pilot model has been added to the cockpit view; new skins like the Blue Angels, VMFA-122 and low-vis skins for VMFA-232 and 323 have been added; external sounds are even more realistic; LEX vapors are more realistic looking; and Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) ground alignment has been added. Here you can find three Hornet live streams we did of the Hornet over the upcoming Persian Gulf map: Part 1: Hornet over UAE and Oman Part 2: Hornet over Iran Part 3: Hornet over the Persian Gulf islands We have also released our 7th Hornet academic video, this one on Hornet waypoint navigation While this will eventually apply to all aircraft, the Hornet will be one of the first DCS World aircraft to incorporate our new rain drops on canopy effect. While still very much WIP, this little snippet shows of the general tech and animation we are using. Persian Gulf Map for DCS World Pre-Purchase the Persian Gulf Map now for $39.99 and save 20%! The price will increase to $49.99 at the end of May 2018. Pre-purchase video SA-2 Guideline (S-75 Dvina) Coming to DCS World Although DCS World includes a large selection of Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) systems, the iconic SA-2 Guideline (S-75 Dvina) has been absent. We are now in the final stages of bringing this historic SAM to DCS World as part of a free update. Developed and first deployed by the Soviet Union in 1957, the SA-2 was designed as a medium- to high-altitude anti-aircraft systems using command guidance. Serving nations throughout the world, the SA-2 became the mode widely deployed SAM in history, with variants produced in China and Iran. It was an SA-2 that led to the shoot down in Francis Gary Powers in a U-2 spy plane over the Soviet Union in 1960. A typical SA-2 SAM battery consists of a "Fan Song" missile guidance radar, six two-stage S-75 missiles with launchers, and reload vehicles. A typical SA-2 battery is laid out with the launchers forming a characteristic "flower" pattern. Multiple batters comprise an SA-2 battalion, with a supporting "Spoon Rest" early warning radar and command and control vans. Three SA-2 SAM battalions are then organized into a larger SA-2 SAM regiment. The SA-2 is still in service to this day and will provide a valuable element to creating even more realistic DCS World battlefields. DCS World War II Assets Update There are three primary components that currently make up the DCS World War II, the Normandy 1944 map, the warbirds, and the World War II Assets Pack. We’d like to update you on each of these: DCS: Normandy 1944 Map Since the map’s release, there have been several improvements like new period objects (windmills, water towers, farm houses, etc.), better beach lines, corrected mesh errors, cleaned up textures, and more detail in the England portion of the map. Currently, Urga Media (the developer) is occupied with their Syria map. However, once the Syria map is complete, we will discuss with them further improvements to the Normandy map like use of speedtrees. Warbirds In addition to completing the final touches to the Spitfire (fuel tanks and bombs), our other primary focus has been the P-47D. More so than any other warbird though, this has been the biggest challenge due to the lack of data. Following the war, all wind tunnel and needed flight dynamics data was destroyed. To overcome this, we are using Flow Vision to recreate the needed data. This has proven a long and expensive endeavor. However, to create the detailed flight dynamics that DCS requires, we consider it mandatory. In consideration of what to work on after the Thunderbolt and Me-262, we asked people to express what they would like to see next, thanks for all the votes, we have submitted the results to the team and will look at what can be done in the future! You can view the results here: Forum World War II Assets Pack Many new aircraft and ground units are in development for the DCS World War II Assets Pack and we’ve included images of a few of them in this week’s newsletter. We plan to release the first big update to the pack in June 2018. At that time, the cost of the pack will increase by $5 given the additional content. Sincerely, The Eagle Dynamics Team
  7. Happy Holidays! We at Eagle Dynamics would like to wish you all a wonderful holiday and a great 2018! 2017 has proved to be a great year for DCS World with the release of several great modules like the Normandy 1944 Map, the updated Su-33, the AV-8B Night Attack V/STOL, the AJS-37 Viggen, many fantastic campaigns, new objects and units for the DCS World maps like the World War II AI units, the NS 430, improvements to the mission editor and VR, and many, many more. We and our partners plan even bigger and better things for 2018 to include: DCS World 2.5 by the end of January DCS: F/A-18C Hornet DCS: Strait of Hormuz Map DCS: F-14 Tomcat DCS: JF-17 DCS: MiG-19 DCS: Mi-24P Hind DCS: F-4E Phantom II DCS: Bo-105 C-101CC variant for the DCS: C-101 module DCS: Yak-52 DCS: I-16 DCS: Christen Eagle II New aircraft carriers Other new maps and continued updates to our existing maps Several other unannounced projects We will also be working on improvements to clouds, explosions with improved proximity damage, virtual reality, spotting system, network play, Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR), air-to-air missiles, and performance optimization with the inclusion of the Vulkan API. In parallel, we will continue to support and improve our existing modules. With the pending release of DCS World 2.5 which will unify our projects and several exiting new modules, we see 2018 as being a great year to be a DCS World fan! DCS World Winter Sale Continues Our DCS World Winter sale will be ending on 3 January at 0900 GMT. During this sale, get great savings on the following: 60% off DCS: A-10C Warthog DCS: Black Shark 2 DCS: Flaming Cliffs 3 DCS: Combined Arms DCS: C-101 F-15C for DCS World Su-27 for DCS World Su-33 for DCS World 50% off on all other modules. Please find these great savings at: Modules Terrains Campaigns Project Updates We'd also like to take this time to update you on a few of our projects: DCS World 2.5 Work is going well with all content complete and all blocking bugs resolved! Work though continues on tuning the map and updating paid campaigns that need to be adjusted for the map changes. This primarily entails moving units out of the many new forested areas on the map. We want this move to DCS World 2.5 to be as bug-free as possible. We have the holiday season fast approaching in Russia, and we need to give our staff time with their loved ones. Given this, we will be releasing DCS World 2.5 by the end of January 2018. This is not an estimate, this is a promise. DCS World 2.5 will be released as a new download (NOT an update to an existing version). Modules under DCS World 1.5 and 2.2 will not need to be re-downloaded or activated. Just do not uninstall DCS World 1.5 and DCS World 2.2 Open Alpha prior to installing DCS World 2.5 Stable, as 2.5 will copy the modules over from 1.5 and 2.2. This should greatly reduce the amount of time to update to DCS World 2.5. Any files in your Users/Saved Games folder will not be affected. Movement of DCS World 2.5 would then soon follow to Steam. DCS: F/A-18C Hornet We and Belsimtek have been working long hours to bring the Hornet to an Early Access release state. Over the past few months, a lot of our time has been devoted to modeling the many fundamental systems that comprise the aircraft like the engines, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, flight control system, and many others. We are now starting to see the fruits of this labor, as evidence of the recent Hornet preflight, startup, taxi, and takeoff videos. Before we can release the Early Access version though, there are several important features we need to implement: Weapon HUD modes Moving map Countermeasures Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) Inertial Navigation System for Waypoints Flight Model Further development of the air-to-air radar Integration of new weapons Improve some of the cockpit art, display fonts, and HUD projection effect Once these items are completed, we plan to release the Hornet into Early Access and we believe it will be an amazing experience! For Hornet news, please consult our FAQ and our Mini-Updates. DCS: Strait of Hormuz Map Our next combat theater map will be the Strait of Hormuz. All of the fundamental work on this map is complete and we are not tuning the elevation mesh, textures, and cleaning up bugs. We expect to release this map in the not-to-distant future and we believe it will be a great home for the Hornet and carrier operations! DCS: Yak-52 As mentioned in an earlier newsletter, this will be an entertainment version of the Yak-52 we are developing for a commercial client. The Yak-52 will launch our new technology for radial engine dynamics which will provide a very realistic engine performance and management. This will be an extremely detailed and realistic simulation of the Yak-52 that will teach by-the-book training and aerobatics. Work is going very well and we are now focusing on the instrumentation and tuning the flight dynamics. We're sure this will be a great lead-in aircraft for new DCS World players and provide a great progression of Russian combat aviation. Happy holidays, The Eagle Dynamics Team AJS-37 Viggen: 16-2 Red Flag Campaign The Viggen campaign for Red Flag is now available! Purchase in the DCS E-Shop Video: AJS-37 Viggen: 16-2 Red Flag Campaign The AJS-37 Viggen: 16-2 Red Flag Campaign is a depiction of flying the AJS-37 Viggen during a typical Red Flag exercise in the skies over Nevada. 8. I have finally been able to purchase a decent more recent model PC. I have MS CFS2 & SFP1 running great on it. With all the hard-drive space I have created many installs with specific planes loaded in each install so the random mission generator button will load appropriate planes. With MS CFS2 I like that you can define groups of enemy planes to chose from, but it messes up if you dump all your planes in one install. Strike Fighters 1 doesn't seem to restrict appropriate planes to showing up when flying over a terrain even if you define friendly and enemy planes in that terrain's 'nations' file. What I would like to do is upgrade to a more recent combat flight sim(s). I say sims because Id be surprised to find a game i liked for both WWII props AND jet (missile) combat. Yes...I'd like some improvement in graphics, but I like the realism (flight mode;s) to be realistic as possible. I do realize the 'air' file or 'data' file creater or modifiers have a huge impact on flight model realism. For example, I can only remember losing a F-4 to an uncontrolable spin once and that was a stock plane not a mod; while, my MiG-29 will spin if you pull to many Gs at a low airspeed (to much AOA) and its a mod add-on! Anyway, looking at pics online it appears that folks are really doing a good job on aircraft for more recent sims...and terrains. Can anyone give me some input on what would be a good combat sim buy(s)? My budget is limitted and I can not buy everything out there to see if i like it like back in the day when i had less responsibility. Oh, I do think i want to get MS FSX to get modern graphics. There's a payware F-4J/S Phantom available that I think I want. However, the VC and skin of my F-4s in Strike Fightes 1 is pretty good really. I would imagine there's probably some pretty good free mod planes for a more recent combat simZ. I'm not THAT picky...I've been living with sims that came out practically in the last millinium for Jeez sake. Input please...and thanks!!
  9. DCS: AV-8B N/A VTOL by RAZBAM Available for Pre-Purchase with Discount We are very pleased to announce the start of the pre-purchase period for RAZBAM's eagerly awaiting AV-8B N/A VTOL! During the pre-purchase period, this module will be priced at $49.99 USD. Once the Early Access is released in late-November 2017, the price will be $59.99 USD. Pre-purchase now in DCS e-shop Pre-purchase Trailer video The AV-8B project was born in the early 1970's as an effort to address the operational inadequacies of the AV-8A first generation Harrier, aimed to dramatically improve the capabilities and performance of the early AV-8A's. The AV-8B made its maiden flight in November 1981 and entered service with the United States Marine Corps in January 1985. It later evolved into the AV-8B N/A (Night Attack) and AV-8B Harrier II Plus. First flight of a modified AV-8B in the night attack configuration was on June 26th, 1987. Deliveries to the USMC began in September of 1989 to VMA-214 at Yuma, Arizona. Follow-up units based out of Yuma received their Night Attack AV-8Bs by the end of 1992.The AV-8B N/A variant (originally known as the AV-8D) had its first operational development in 1984 and included use of the NAVFLIR (Navigation Forward-Looking Infrared camera, consisting of a GEC-Marconi FLIR system mounted in the nose) for night operations. Additionally, GEC Cat's Eyes night vision goggles were provided to the pilot as well as a revised cockpit with color MFDs, a wider field-of-view HUD display, a color CRT digital moving map, and a complete "heads-down" operation capability. The AV-8B N/A also sports four Tracor ALE-39 countermeasures dispensers along the top of the rear fuselage, in addition to two ALE-39 dispensers along the lower rear of the fuselage. The AV-8B N/A also fields an updated version of the Rolls-Royce Pegasus 11-61 (F402-RR-408) vectored-thrust turbofan engine. The subject of this study level simulation is the AV-8B N/A Bu No's 163853 and up which are the latest variant of this very capable AV-8B version. 21. File Name: FJ-3M VF-211 Red Checkertails Skin for DCS F-86F File Submitter: HomeFries File Submitted: 30 June 2015 File Category: Misc/AI Aircraft Skins This is part of a series of US Navy and Marine Corps skin packs for the FJ-3/FJ-3M Fury, the navalized variant of the F-86 Sabre (the M version being Sidewinder capable). Fighter Squadron 211 (the Red Checkertails which were later redesignated the VF-24 Renegades, not to be confused with the VF-211 Checkmates designated in 1959) flew the FJ-3M Fury from 1956-1957 before transitioning to the F8U-1 Crusader. This skin pack features skins from the 1956-57 deployment aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31) as part of Carrier Air Group 21 (CVG-21, Tailcode G). Note: this skin pack uses an EXE installer that creates common texture folders and an autoexec.cfg (if you already have one, you can make manual changes). I would like your feedback on this system; if it works I intend to apply it to my other skin packs. If you have a 1.x version of this skin installed, then the installer will remove the old 1.x liveries and obsolete texture folders. Be sure to update any missions that used 1.x series skins. A Note About Autoexec.cfg: Rather than copying texture files to their respective livery folders, I prefer to use a series of common texture folders along with unique filenames. This allows a single instance of many of my common textures, and keeps the hard drive footprint to a minimum (especially nice if you run a SSD for your system drive). The installer will add a series of folders to the DCS Texture path; if you do not have these folders created, then it is no problem. The autoexec.cfg included will automatically point to the Texture folder in your Saved Games\DCS folder, and regardless of whether you run the Open Alpha, Open Beta, or Release version of DCS, the path will always point to your Saved Games\DCS\Texture folder. Again, this saves space on your hard drive. If you use your own Autoexec.cfg, then when prompted to overwrite you can click "no". This will create a file called autoexec.new, and you can manually make the updates as you like. Just don't modify the top line with the file date; this is used by the installer for version control. However, feel free to include it in your existing autoexec.cfg, so you don't get prompted to overwrite until there's another update to the autoexec.cfg. If you inadvertently overwrite your autoexec.cfg, it is actually backed up as autoexec.old. Just open it and copy the appropriate information to the new file. Updating from the 1.x series of FJ-3 Skins: With the release of DCS World 1.5.4 and 2.0.3, the decal layer that once covered the entire model has been removed by Belsimtek. As such, organizational specific modex placement as well as modex placement on the wing is no longer possible. The modex (1xx-3xx) is now selected in the Mission Editor rather than by skin selection. For skins that have the BuNo on the tail, the last two digits of the modex are also used for the BuNo (this is not accurate, but just to allow a dynamic number on the tail). Detail placement in textures based on USN skins by Crazyeddie. Special thanks to SkateZilla for the awesome Photoshop template. You are free to use any of the textures in other skins or projects as long as proper credit is provided in the readme file. -Home Fries Click here to download this file

  23. File Name: FJ-3M VF-142 Fighting Falcons Skin Pack for DCS F-86F File Submitter: HomeFries File Submitted: 30 June 2015 File Category: Misc/AI Aircraft Skins This is the first in a series of US Navy and Marine Corps skin packs for the FJ-3/FJ-3M Fury, the navalized variant of the F-86 Sabre (the M version being Sidewinder capable). The idea of this series is to have a single skin for each squadron, and separate decals for each side number (Modex). The last 4 digits of the serial number (BuNo) use the USAF serial number to allow for dynamic BuNos, though the side number must be selected by choosing the skin itself. This will allow a common Modex pool and a single texture for each squadron, thereby allowing you to employ an entire squadron in a mission while keeping the hard drive and in-mission RAM footprint to a minimum. Fighter Squadron 142 (the Fighting Falcons, not to be confused with the VF-142 Ghostriders that was designated in 1963) flew the FJ-3M Fury for a short time (1956-1958), including a deployment on the USS Hornet (CVA-12) as part of Carrier Air Group 14 (CVG-14) before returning to NAS Miramar and transitioning to the F8L1-1 Crusader. This skin pack features skins from the 1957 Hornet deployment (CVG-14 Tailcode A) and the return to Miramar (1958) prior to transitioning to the Crusader. The 1958 skin displays the CVG-14 Tailcode NK, which replaced A once the US Navy went to 2 letter tailcodes.
