  2. File Name: Los Angeles class attack submarine File Submitter: WhiteBoySamurai File Submitted: 26 October 2012 File Category: Submarines This model represents the Los Angeles class, in service from 1976 to present. The Los Angeles is America's most widely produced nuclear attack sub, with a long service history and proven design. This package contains two versions of the Los Angeles: Original version (688) commissioned in 1976, armed with Harpoon missiles (deployed from its four torpedo tubes). Improved version (688i) commissioned in 1985, using Harpoons, plus Tomahawk missiles in twelve vertical launch tubes. Note that the initial batch of eight "Flight II" VLS-equipped subs have been grouped together with the 688i models for simplicity's sake, as any performance differences can't really be modelled in this series. If there is sufficient demand for it, I'll made separate mods for each flight. Each version includes a full names.ini list, in case you want to use these boats in a task force, plus individual decal sets for each boat if you need to place them as single objects. SF2: North Atlantic is required for this mod as it uses some stock number decals. Please see the readme for full details, credits, and instructions for use. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or constructive criticisms regarding this model, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you! Click here to download this file

  4. While it makes perfect sense to keep the default NationName as a level 0 decal (i.e. taking its entries from NATIONS.INI), when it comes to the US Navy I would like to be able to have the name of the carrier on the side of the aircraft. Since USN Aircraft generally already have four decals on the fuselage (NationName, InsigniaFuseL, InsigniaFuseR, SQName), there is no room for an additonal decal for the aircraft carrier. So how was I able to do this? Quite simply, I took the USN decals.ini files and changed the NationName decal to level 1, then created a series of decals each pertaining to the squadron. In this case, I named the files Navy.tga and Navyxxx.tga where xxx is the entry number in squadronlist.ini. MeshName=fuselage_rear DecalLevel=1 DecalFacing=RIGHT FilenameFormat=A6SP1979\NAVY Position=-5.92,0.55 Scale=1.1 DecalMaxLOD=2 This can be done for any USN aircraft; the supercarriers have been done. All you need to do to make this work for another squadron is find the appropriate TGA and rename it to the number of the squadron in SquadronList.ini. There is one potential downside to this workaround: since it is a workaround, this only works for USN squadrons. If you select a USN aircraft with this tweak and select a different nation, you will still get "NAVY" on the fuselage. There are two ways to address this: Since most USN aircraft are also flown by the USMC, just put the USMC aircraft entry first in the aircraft.ini file. Then when you select a different nation, you can still use the level 0 NationName in the USMC decals.ini. This can work for absolutely everybody so long as every entry in the squadronlist.ini has a level 1 decal. In other words, for non-USN squadrons you would need to duplicate the corresponding NationName decal as a level 1. As you can imagine, this could get unwieldy rather quickly, especially if you want to allow for different carriers over different periods of time (e.g. the picture above is 1979; for 1976 VA-52 was on the Coral Sea). I realize that this isn't rocket science, but I figured it was worth bringing up as a brainstorming/discussion point.
  5. File Name: Ticonderoga class cruiser superpack File Submitter: WhiteBoySamurai File Submitted: 09 June 2012 File Category: Cruisers This package includes every variant of the Ticonderoga class Aegis cruisers, including: CG-47 Baseline 1 (Mk26 twin arm launcher) CG-52 Baseline 2 (Mk41 VLS) CG-59 Baseline 3&4 (improved sensors and weapons) CG-52_06 (first round of modernization refits circa 2006) CG-52_12 (final Cruiser Conversion Program refits, starting 2012) Naturally, all sounds, decals, weapons, ship name and number lists are included. The CG-52 and CG-59 variants are further divided into air defense and land attack versions, armed with Standard Missiles and Tomahawks respectively. Each of the air defense ships also comes with two different data.ini files: the default, which uses a true VLS weapon system (albeit one missile and one target at a time and disables the Harpoon missiles), and a data_EX.ini version, which enables multiple simultaneous engagements and is almost as deadly as its real life counterpart. Use whichever one you like, depending on if you prefer realistic visuals or realistic performance. The Ticonderoga has always been my "flagship" project (pun intended), and so I've updated the models using everything I've learned in the year since I started modding. I've also added a small Easter Egg for those of you who want to try a helicopter takeoff from from this ship. Note: The weapon systems, collision mesh, and decals have been updated for compatibility with SF2: North Atlantic and the March 2012 patch. If you have not installed/do not plan to install either, this model will not work properly. See the readme file for full details. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or constructive criticisms regarding this model, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you! Click here to download this file

  7. File Name: CG-16 Leahy class cruiser File Submitter: WhiteBoySamurai File Submitted: 29 September 2011 File Category: Cruisers This model represents the Leahy class, in service from 1962 to 1995. The Leahy class was dedicated missile cruiser, equipped with fore and aft twin SAM launchers, and primarily tasked with defending fleet elements. This package contains three versions of the Leahy, separated into the major refits the class underwent during its service life: As built in 1962: Equipped with Terrier missiles and two 3" twin turrets AAW refit circa 1968: Terriers replaced with SM-1ER, electronics updated to support new missiles NTU refit circa 1988: New radars, 3" guns replaced with Harpoon launchers and Phalanx CIWS, SM-1ER replaced with SM-2ER Each version has its own names.ini list, so each variant will appear in task forces in the correct era. Each version of the ship is substantially different in their anti-air and anti-missile capability, which I have attempted to simulate as best as I can. The Harpoons on the NTU version are fully functional. SRBOC launchers (as on my other USN ships) are included on the model but disabled by default for simplicity's sake. Note: The weapon systems, collision mesh, and decals have been updated for compatibility with SF2: North Atlantic and the March 2012 patch. If you have not installed/do not plan to install either, this model will not work properly. When setting up a task force, using the USNgrey texture will allow hull decals based on the ship number. If placing the model as a single ship instead of a task force, please use the different texture sets to get a specific hull number. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or constructive criticisms regarding this model, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you! Click here to download this file

  9. File Name: DDG-51 Arleigh Burke class Aegis destroyer (Flight I & II) File Submitter: WhiteBoySamurai File Submitted: 17 July 2011 File Category: Destroyers This model represents the Arleigh Burke class destroyers Flight I (DDG-51~DDG-71) and Flight II (DDG-72~78), in service from 1991 to present (upgrades and refits notwithstanding). They are among the largest and most heavily armed destroyers in the world. As with my previous Aegis vessels, two different versions are included (air defense and land attack), as well as name and hull number decals for each ship of the class, plus the necessary sounds, guns, and weapons. An optional data file allowing multiple simultaneous engagements is included. See the readme file for full details. 13. File Name: LCS-1 Freedom class Littoral Combat Ship File Submitter: WhiteBoySamurai File Submitted: 25 June 2011 File Category: Other This model represents the first Littoral Combat Ship, USS Freedom, in commission with the US Navy since 2008. These vessels are designed to be fast, stealthy, and highly modular. This package includes decal sets for all current and future ships of the class, plus all necessary sounds, guns, and weapons such as the exclusive RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile. The ship can support two helicopters. See the readme file for full details. A SRBOC countermeasures system has been installed to help defend against anti-ship missiles. This system is still in the beta stages, but if well-received, will be added to my other models as appropriate. This baseline of the ship is equipped with a number of upgrades, including an improved SPY-1B radar, SARTIS sensors, and missile systems. With over 120 long-range highly accurate missiles, this vessel is by far the single most dangerous GroundObject ever released for the ThirdWire games. File Name: CG-52 Ticonderoga class Aegis cruiser File Submitter: WhiteBoySamurai File Submitted: 29 May 2011 File Category: Cruisers This model represents the Baseline 2 Ticonderoga class cruisers (CG-52~CG-58), in service from 1986 to present (upgrades and refits notwithstanding). These were the first vessels to be equipped with a vertical launch system (VLS), granting vastly increased capability and adaptability. With over 120 long-range highly accurate missiles, this vessel is by far the single most dangerous GroundObject ever released for the ThirdWire games. Both air defense and land attack versions of the ship are included, as well as name and hull number decals for each ship of the class, plus the necessary sounds, guns, and weapons. Note: The weapon systems, collision mesh, and decals have been updated for compatibility with SF2: North Atlantic and the March 2012 patch. If you have not installed/do not plan to install either, this model will not work properly. See the readme file for full details. 19. File Name: CG-47 Ticonderoga class Aegis cruiser File Submitter: WhiteBoySamurai File Submitted: 18 May 2011 File Category: Cruisers This model represents the early Baseline 1 Ticonderoga class cruisers (CG-47~CG-51), serving the US Navy from 1983 until 2005. They were the first vessels to be equipped with the Aegis combat system and the advanced SPY-1 radar. This is my first major 3DMax project and my first model release for the Thirdwire games, now completely overhauled using everything I've learned about modding over the past year. This update gives the ship full compatibility with the SF2:NA/March 2012 patch game engine. It includes features such as working fore and aft Standard Missile launchers, new effects, optimized collision mesh, and helo deck that doesn't turn the ship unsinkable. Note that these updates may not be compatible with earlier versions of the game. 21. View File [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas Phantom F-4L (USMC) McDonnell Douglas F-4L (USMC/USN) Phantom for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-4M_75 to give a fictional USMC Phantom F-4L with markings for VMFA-333 'Shamrocks'. Also included is a USN VF-111 scheme that generally uses stock decals but is included here to give a blank F-4L tail for you to do other squadrons by using stock decals. It goes without saying that you will need to have the F-4M_75 from SF2:Europe. BACKSTORY With all the considerable design effort being put into the marriage of the Phantom airframe and the Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engine McDonnell Douglas thought it might be a good idea to propose a version to the US Navy to allow the Phantom to operate from the smaller carriers that were limited to F-8E Crusaders. In June 1966 the designation F-4L was given to the proposed Spey-powered Phantom and in October 1966 an initial order for 130 F-4L's (USN/USMC) was made, followed by an unexpected export order of 30 F-4L's for the Royal Australian Navy. Deliveries to the US Navy commenced in February 1969 with VF-24 becoming the first operational squadron followed by VMFA-333. By this time the wisdom of operating such a relatively large aircraft on the older, smaller carriers was being questioned and most F-4L's served aboard the larger carriers or with land-based units. When the decision was made not to re-equip the USMC 'fighter-attack' Phantom squadrons with the hugely expensive Grumman F-14A Tomcat, McDonnell Douglas pushed hard for low-rate production of the F-4L to continue specifically for USMC use and they were eventually successful meaning that production continued until 1976 with an eventual total of 306 F-4L's being built. Apart from Australia, F-4L's also served with the Royal Air Force where 15 ex-USN F-4L's were sold to the UK Government to allow the formation of an additional home-based Phantom squadron to release a squadron for the defence of the Falkand Isles. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-4L_75 folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-4L_75 folder into your Decals folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. Regards Spinners Version 2 - February 17th, 2024.
