My understanding is that there were some legal issues? So we won't see it. Could be wrong, somebody else in the know maybe can fill you in.

There were / are copywrite issues involving Grumman/Northrup Corp. Its a problem coming more and more to the forfront as these Corp. legal eagles try and find any and all ways of putting a few more pennies in their company coffers damn the public full speed ahead!.....to the bank :rtfm:

As far as I have been able to ascertain so far, there has never been any legal issues involving certain American aircraft manufacturers and the designers of the IL2 series of games.

My assumption is that the whole 'legal problems' line was to buy time for 1C's sloppy management and poor customer relations in delivering the required patch/fix to bring PF up to speed. You can put it in the same file as the endless run of sick programmers, office relocations, dog ate my homework type arguments that 1C have been feeding people for 6 months now.

There was a thread recently on PF with lots of finger pointing and nashing of teeth, during which the legal thing reared its head again.

I can't locate it to give you the exact quote, but one of the replys was from someone who had spoke to representatives at Grumman who denied there was a problem over copyright at all!!!

Makes you wonder...... :dntknw:

Royalties against Modeling: There is a current political "war" in the US about Manufacturers paying royalties to trade names to build their Boeings, North American, Sikorskys and others, while the tax payers have already paid their dues to these companies. If the law is passed in Congress in the next few weeks, it could affect the modeling industry and make it too expensive to make new kits. Here is a link from Mike Bass of Stevens International http://greatmodels.com/main/Specials/copyrights.htm with more details and how YOU modelers and shop owners can react. From GreatModels.com website weekly newsletter. Don't Know if it relates to PC games or not.

there were legal issues with using the name "Grumman" on the box. this was documented in a couple of forums including one not belonging to Ubi that discussed copyright issues. the skinny is "Grumman" threatened to sue and Ubi which doesn't like 1C giving anything away for free entered into a cease and desist agreement with "Grumman" and deducted the legal costs from Ubi's profits. although there was no other "true" copyright issues Ubi entering into an agreement seems to have the side effect of prohibiting 1C vis-a-vis Ubi from including "anything" by "Grumman" without compensation even if "Grumman" has no right to claim compensation - Ubi caved w/o a fight and now legally 1C is bound by that agreement.

without "Grumman's" approval we will not see it - what is unknown is if with compensation 1C also got rights... if they did, there's hope, if not forgetaboutit!
