assign button commands on MS Sidewinder stick

Hi everyone,I just bought lomac gold and am trying to assign button commands on my MS sidewinder joystick,it's not FF,what I'm trying to assign is the fire button from the spacebar to button 1! Everytime I try,it won't take!! help!!! thanks........

please tell us how you are doing it?I ask because not only do you have to high light teh command and make sure you're not on keyboard,but once selected you have to click the"Change"button first,then you'll get the window asking you to reassign the command.and if you're already do this then just check your stick in the control panel to make sure it;s recognised.
