File Name: 77 Squadron RAAF Dark Grey

File Submitter: Gramps

File Submitted: 12 Nov 2004

File Updated: 13 Nov 2004

File Category: SF F-18 Skins

Here is the McDonnell Douglas (Boeing) FA-18A Hornet for Strike Fighters, Project 1. This skin represents the "dark grey scheme" trailed on the aircraft on 77 Squadron, RAAF, in the 1990's.

The model was created by Paco Ramirez, known as "cbhierro" on our second home, the Forum at SimHQ.

Thanks very much to Paco, without who there would be no Strike Fighters Hornet! You can find his skins for the Hornet, and all his other amazing work, at:

The Hornet was to come with a new cockpit with a HUD (based on Digital Overloads F-5E cockpit), however it's proven difficult to implement. Hopefully, Version 2 of the Hornet will have this feature.

The Hornet is also set up to take full advantage of Service Pack 3's main new features, carrier ops and countermeasures. The Hornet is fully setup for carrier ops (she works great off a carrier, believe me), and also has working Electronic Counter Measures, and working flares and chaff.

After unzipping, place the 77Dark folder into the Objects/Aircraft/F-18 folder.

The skin should automatically update the lists of textures in the F-18.ini, if not paste the following:

[TextureSetXXX]

Directory=77Dark

Name=77 Squadron RAAF Dark Grey

Nation=Australia

Specular=0.500000

Glossiness=0.350000

Reflection=0.100000

DecalMipMapLevels=3

Squadron=

into the F-18.ini, remembering to change the TextureSet number to the appropriate number.

To add 77 Squadron RAAF to the Squadron list, copy and paste the following into the SquadronList.ini file located in the PilotData folder:

[squadronXXX]

Name=77Sqn

DisplayName=77 Squadron RAAF

Nation=Australia

As for the TextureSet number, make sure you change the Squadron number to the appropriate number.

And then fly!

Known problems:

1/ In normal and hard FM modes, the aircraft will bounce slightly, for about 10 seconds, if you start your mission "on the runway".

2/ In hard FM mode, the aircraft has a very high roll rate, but it's easy to get used to and nothing like the infamous F-15C issue!

3/ Aircraft will porpoise on auto pilot in all modes, which seems to be the plague of all third party aircraft in SF, but by no means a big deal.

For any other problems, please post at the Strike Fighters/Wings Over Vietnam Forum at www.SimHQ.com, or email at the address below.

Enjoy!
