Nakagima Ki-43 I "Oscar":

This model in the Ki-43 series is fairly representative of the type found in the China-India-Burma Theater and the South West Pacific up through early 43.

While the plane was light and very maneuverable it wasn't particularly fast and it suffered from the same faults as most of the earlier Japanese designs. The lack of self sealing fuel tanks and armor caused this plane to burn like a bonfire with relatively few hits and it was woefully under-gunned.
