Help with Squadron Badge Usage

Does anyone have any information on Squadron Badges usage during the 50-60's?

I need to know:

1- Were they commonly used?

2- Did all the services used them?

3- Were they put into specific areas? (nose, under cockpit, etc)

4- Was there an standard size for them

BTW, what about Nose Art? I heard that their use was frowned by the brass. The same questions as the badges apply.
