kcott04 0 Posted February 5, 2007 ive played some flight sims here and there, but i dont like a lot of them because they seem too "arcade-like"...i prefer realism over video game killing sprees...i want to buy a decent flight sim, so i was looking into jane's f/a-18 (im biased towards the navy)...anyone have any reviews, thoughts, comments or suggestions? Dagger 21 Posted February 5, 2007 It's a great title, abit dated but still one of the best.IF you want realism and a very good SIMULATOR,then I might suggest Falcon 4:AF.The learning curve is kinda steep, but it is fun.if you like Props IL-2 series is the best way to go,with all the flyable aircraft, and carrier and land based ops, plus all the options on what you want to control this would be a great choice for a prop sim.If you're into BIG bombers from WW2 B-17 II The Mighty 8th,again dated and single player only but alot of fun,and again as complex as you want.Hope this helps. If you want Navy and modern stuff F/A-18 is a good game,if you don't have compatibility issues as it's a win 98 game.IL-2:1946 which has all the IL-2 series in it on one dvd you get carrier ops but it's older prop planes and theres so many clans and the on-line play is fun.A shameless plug for my clan is TAW as we have an on-line campain on Saturdays. kcott04 0 Posted February 6, 2007 hows falcon 4 compared to LOMAC?
Dagger 21 Posted February 6, 2007 hows falcon 4 compared to LOMAC? This is a much asked question..but it's apples and oranges.Falcon is a true simulator, where as LOMAC is alot easier but has better graphics.I am a HUGH Falcon 4 fan,so my opinion is biased.I ended up selling my copies of LOMAC and the FC add-on(which uses starforce for copy protection..thats part of the reason it sells took a hit)If you're wanting a modern simulator Falcon is the best bet,but plan on spending time in the training missions learning everything from ramp starts to take offs, weapons and navigation, radars(theres alot to learn here),refueling, and landings.LOMAC is pretty but not nearly as complex. Battle of Britain 2 IMO is the most realistic, immersive ww2 combat sim going. Make Il-2 look "cartoonish" which is hard to do..
