Lt. James Cater Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Hey everyone. I've been searching around for a WW2 tank sim for a while and it's come down to these two. I've seen some of the stuff on Youtube but does anyone here have experience with them? what do you think will be better for single play. Thanks all. Quote
Thog10 Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I've played Red Orchestra - and now its Western Front Mod, Darkest Hour - a fair amount. It's definately not a single player game. The available bots are pretty brain-dead, but the online action can be quite good. It is not an indepth sim of tank ops as it is primarily a infantry-themed FPS, but it does give some sense of combined arms. The armor of a particular AFV is stronger where it should be stronger, and the game now includes a fairly wide range of tanks. The tank aspect alone might be comparable to a "sim-light" in the flight sim world. Overall it is definately worth the $20. Quote
Lt. James Cater Posted September 10, 2008 Author Posted September 10, 2008 Unfortunatly i cant do online combat since i'm on a wireless rig. Do you know if the bots have any kind of patch to improve their performance? I've been leaning toward RO from what i've seen. Quote

You might want to check around the message boards at their site. If anyone would know, they would. http://www.redorchestragame.com/ Quote
Roopod Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 A warning: I have the Red Orchestra game. To install it you must be connected to the internet. If you are not connected, the game will not install. So then I installed it along with the mandatory user name and password requirement. I never played as an infantryman, by the way, but only in the tanks and armored cars. Until the day I uninstalled it, due to hard drive size limits to install other software. After getting a larger hard drive and reinstalling it, while on the internet, I realized I had lost my user name, password, so that I couldn't access the game. No problem, right? Wrong! The game site e-mailed my lost user name and password but when I tried to log-on there was also a required question to answer like who is your hero. Which I don't remember since I never really had just one. I tried to e-mail the game site, the company, but apparently those kind of customer problems aren't dealt with. So be warned. At least I can still play WARGASM! Quote
