That's actually a great price (assuming the 13 month term refers to the minimum time the student has to be in school and not to the length of the license).

I called the site and they only offer a 13-month license, but they said as long as you stay in school, or I'm a teacher, I can renew it for the same term and price.

FC, is Gmax worth using?

My opinion, it can be worth using as a learning tool to get familiar with 3ds max and 3d modeling in general. But converting models requires some hoop jumping. It's better to buy 3ds max if you can. Kind of a pain about that limited license thing....sounds like rent.
