How Do I Forward Ports On A Router

I need help forwarding ports for games so I can host and join games.

 

Its a MC8000UE-S4 adsl router

 

it looks like i have to do the port fowarding in virtual server however,

 

public - I take it this must be the normal port if no router was in place

 

private port - where do i get this info from??? :o <_<

 

UDP/TCP - fairly straight forward

 

host ip - no problem here

 

any one help me out here.
