warlock777 0 Posted April 27, 2009 Hello guys, I've tried to install OFF (phase 2) today but got the following error: "Default CFS3 installation not found, Install CFS3". As far as I'm concerned, my CFS 3 is where it should be (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 3"). Any ideas? Many thanks.
steve58 0 Posted April 27, 2009 (edited) Did you follow all the steps as described in the How to setup OFF Phase 2 (only) thread (http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=37679)? Edited April 27, 2009 by steve58
warlock777 0 Posted April 28, 2009 I've managed to install it but still can't play... OFF gives me 3 error messages: the first one at the first screen (with the dog): "Runtime error: 429. Active X component can't create object". The second one at the campaign screen says: "There is no driver installed on your system". The last one is at the briefing room when I click on "Go to the Field". The game hangs up and I see the "Microsoft Combat Flight Simulation 3 has stopped working". To add insult to my injuries, the "Cs3config" at the CFSWW1 Over Flanders Field folder is not working either. Every time I click on it i get the "csf3config.exe has stopped working". Any ideas? thanks.
sitting_duck 3 Posted April 28, 2009 (edited) How does cfs3 play? And like steve said, did you follow the install walkthru, specifically the part where you have to run cfs3 at least once, before you install off2. And, as an afterthout, (been kinda long since ive done off2), i think there was a "manual" configure for it. Not to be confused with the cfs3config file. Just that if the game did not configure itself when you ran it the first time, you could do it manually. Edited April 28, 2009 by sitting_duck
ONETINSOLDIER 2 Posted April 28, 2009 this is similarto the problems i was having with phase 2, , the thing is, after installing cfs3, its NEVER asked me for the cfs3 disc, it just always ran without it. was there 2 versions or something?
warlock777 0 Posted April 29, 2009 Got it! I swapped the Shell.exe for the Cfs.exe and renamed it to Shell.exe. It's working perfectly now. One more question: where can I get warpzap? I dont have it on my OFF Ph2 package... Thank you all.
sitting_duck 3 Posted April 29, 2009 http://polovski.com/OFFP2/WarpZap_2007_08_23.zip but, here is the readme that I have for it....notice that it modifies your shell.exe, which is your old cfs3.exe i belive. WARPZAP (Lower WARP speed Enabler) Kindly made by RexHannover (member of SimOuthouse.com forums) - thanks Rex! Enables slow WW1 planes to attain "warp" quickly Warp at 62MPH rather than 123MPH! Warp is a function in CFS3 to skip to the next waypoint or action quickly. Normally in CFS3 it's 123MPH before you can use it, however with WW1 planes this is a tough speed to make without climbing then diving carefully which can take a few minutes). This program permanently patches SHELL.EXE please make a backup of this file before you run this patch! It can be run at any time on any version of OFF, but once patched you will not need to patch again unless you re-install. This is free, and has had limited testing -so be careful as we can accept no responsibility if something bad happens- if you don't like that idea then do not use it ! DOWNLOAD WARP ENABLER Instructions: download and unzip to your "CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields" folder. Double click on the WarpZap.exe program. It will ask you to browse for the Shell.exe. Find it in your CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder, highlight it and then click Open. That;s it, if there is a problem you will be warned, otherwise the program will successfully patch and exit. Then in OFF in flight, as you get to 62mph hit X to warp to test
SopmodMikeFour 4 Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) Renaming cfs3 to shell exe and putting it in the OFF fields folder did not work for me.OFF still crashes when it tries to access CFS3.exe when I try to fly.I'm totally stuck here on what to do.I'm certainly not going to pay $39 for phase 3 if phase 2 will not work so I can try it out. Couple of questions. How does cfs3 play? any problems with that? And not a vista user here, so just going by what i have read in other posts, have you taken all your exe's for off2, and made them so they run as administrator, and run in xp compatitblity mode. One way or another, we will get you up and running.
SopmodMikeFour 4 Posted May 20, 2009 Suit yourself, but Phase 2 was written with XP in mind. For the simple reason Vista did Not exist PERIOD That statement really makes no sense considering Phase 2 turned into 3 in a short period of time.Has to be the same code. You also stated that there was a "help or how to" thread on getting this to work and that it did work on Vista. Why has it vanished and not been put back up? CFS3 runs fine.XP compatibility mode no longer works in Vista sadly. After SP1 or 2 MS somehow broke it.This has been documented on a lot of forums.Compatibility doesnt work for me.I do run as administrator though. sitting_duck 3 Posted May 20, 2009 I dont have vista, so i have never had to go thru all the hassles it seems to present with this game, but, to be honest, i have never seen another post that said xp compatiblity mode was "broken". im sure your references to the fact that it has been posted in other forum are accurate, just never seen that problem here. And, like i said, all the other posts have indicated that this is has solved alot of problems with off2 and vista. Excuse me if i am asking a stupid question, but when you renamed the cfs3.exe to shell.exe, you meant the cfs3.exe that resides in the overflandersfields directory, and not the microsoft games/cfs3 directory (its been done before by otheres) Its been a while since i had off2 installed on a computer, so kinda forget what the executables where. What i am trying to remeber is if there is a seperate exe for the offmanager, and another one for a cfs3.exe. If so, you might want to try getting into the game by just dbl clicking the cfs3.exe, and see how far that gets you. And as far as the how to, i think that was on our old site, and as they crashed a little while ago, not sure if it was restored.
