Can anyone explain in short, for what are exactly all these modes?

When I looked for this in the forum, I found that TWS is something like 'hidden', AIM-9 can be locked only in STT mode, but:

When would be selected RWS mode, in which combat condition TWS and for what condition is STT mode best???
