Very sad to hear that Harry Patch died last night. He was the last English veteran of WW1.

I recently read his biography. A truly remarkable man. He instructed his machine gun crew to aim low so as to wound the Germans in the legs rather than kill them. He was the sole survivor when his crew were hit by a whizz bang. The flash and bang of which haunted him for the rest of his life.
