Rear and UP views

I am new to OFF. I do have many years sim experience in various bi planes and WWII fighters. However, I find that in OFF I have a problem with visibility, despite being in an open cockpit.

Other than in cycle views (F4 toggle), I cannot get a good field of view in the VC position.

 

What is the fastest way to get a backward view? Is it Ctrl+Enter? What is the fastest way to get an upward view? Is it Shift+Enter? If the answer is yes, can I assign these to my joystick?

 

I am getting to like this sim very much. However, I think the inability to be able to see around quickly is a big drawback to survival.

 

Other than visual sighting, if an enemy is approaching will it show up in the circle on the top left ?

 

What do the blue, and sometimes red triangles, in the circle represent? What is the purpose of this circle?
