Flyby PC Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Little off topic, but Rugby Commentator Bill McLaren died today. Don't expect you Americans will have heard of him, but he was a giant in the world of rugby union, and my gym teacher at the same time. Rest in peace Bill.
Rugbyfan1972 Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Little off topic, but Rugby Commentator Bill McLaren died today. Don't expect you Americans will have heard of him, but he was a giant in the world of rugby union, and my gym teacher at the same time. Rest in peace Bill. Flyby PC I know what you mean, he was the commentator I remember most, from watching my first England v Scotland game in 1987, and he is still in my opinion the best I have ever heard if a wee bit biased when it came to England (I am english, by the way). My dad used to enjoy his commentaries which says a lot as my dad is from Cumberland (or Cumbria as it is now), and he as I am sure you do knows all about the history of the Borders rivalry, sheep stealing and all that. I know he will be sorely missed by those rugby fans in the UK. If you go to www.planet-rugby.com onto the forums they have a topic devoted to Bill with a link to 4 mins of some of his best commentary, on the BBC Scotland website, some great memories and some even greater commentaries, well worth a look if you have not already seen it. RIP Bill you will be sadly missed Rugbyfan1972
