Flyby PC 23 Posted January 19, 2010 Little off topic, but Rugby Commentator Bill McLaren died today. Don't expect you Americans will have heard of him, but he was a giant in the world of rugby union, and my gym teacher at the same time. Rest in peace Bill. Rugbyfan1972 1 Posted January 19, 2010 Little off topic, but Rugby Commentator Bill McLaren died today. Don't expect you Americans will have heard of him, but he was a giant in the world of rugby union, and my gym teacher at the same time. Rest in peace Bill. Flyby PC I know what you mean, he was the commentator I remember most, from watching my first England v Scotland game in 1987, and he is still in my opinion the best I have ever heard if a wee bit biased when it came to England (I am english, by the way). My dad used to enjoy his commentaries which says a lot as my dad is from Cumberland (or Cumbria as it is now), and he as I am sure you do knows all about the history of the Borders rivalry, sheep stealing and all that. I know he will be sorely missed by those rugby fans in the UK. If you go to www.planet-rugby.com onto the forums they have a topic devoted to Bill with a link to 4 mins of some of his best commentary, on the BBC Scotland website, some great memories and some even greater commentaries, well worth a look if you have not already seen it. RIP Bill you will be sadly missed Rugbyfan1972
