A6M2 Zero fuel gauge

I have noticed that the fuel gauge on the Zero doesn't show the remaining fuel correctly. For instance when the fuel quantity is at 50% the gauge still shows a full tank . Is there a way to fix this, cause I keep running out of fuel on the return trip to base (carrier) . P.S. It dose this without an external tank attached.
