  1. So the north Vietnamese got new shells for their guns. I was striking a warehouse in a port and the sky lit up with purple pokadots, flak clouds still showed up but there were these purple dots shooting up towards me. I swear I followed the directions as The readme says. Could this be a graphics setting? (im not too comp savy.)
  2. Okay cool, sorry it was late and I had spent the whole day working on my car so I was pretty whooped, and was pretty confused by them, and didnt have much mental capacity at the time to do anything other than ask lol. I'll check it out there were a few other weird things like waypoints not lining up with what was on my map. but then the next time I played a mission all seemed good. So I guess everythings okay. I might have to play around with settings I assume with the mod adding lots of stuff in it taxed my comp. I figured my comp was beefy enough, 3gb ram, 9800 gtx+ (I think) and I7 processor, but i was getting some slowdown as I neared my main objective as the sky lit up with aa fire. Should I just do some of the changes the readme stated? like going back to the old exhaust? Or should I just bump settings down from High to medium to pick up frame rates? Thanks again, I started a campaign with the black knights, Love the f-8 and those 4 20 mm's, the lower payload is a drawback but loving it.
  3. I got nam last week and love it so far so I got Europe as well, figure between the two major mods; nato fighters, and the nam expansion pack should keep me pretty busy. But as I have a updated version of europe will I run into problems with nato fighters? It says its for the june 2009 patch Thanks. Also does nato pack just add planes, or is it a all encompasing super mod with campaigns and such? Im at work and was trying to read it but the download page just says read the readme, is there an internet copy of the read me to read? dont want to download the pack to my work computer just to read it.
  4. So Can I run it now? or should I just run europe stock for a bit.
  5. Im digging vietnam at the moment and I grabbed europe, will probably round it out with all of them eventually as Im loving them. havent played flight sims since the days of janes usnf97 or janes usaf gold. Its great to get back in the cockpit. But I figure 'Nam and Europe will keep me busy especially with the vietnam xpack and nato fighters pack for both games, plenty of addon.
  6. Thanks for all the help guys. Ive gotten alot of great advice as I climbed back into the cockpit. Last night I played acouple missions with the older jets as instructed. But as I was trying to dink around to get the stick to my liking, out of habit I kept hitting ESC to try to get to options to make a control change here or there. So by accident 3 times after takeoff trying to make adjustments I inadvertently quit the mission thinking I could get to options by hitting ESC mid mission. (BTW we have some hysterical smileys here) Anyway I finally got to the engadgment in my single mission and was promptly shot down, so still gotta work on my gun fighting. But after that I just jumped into an instant action and was in a f-4 and managed to splash 3 migs with AIM-7s and one with guns, and I would say a half with a AIM-9, the mig blew up from another friendly's hits before my missile hit it. All in all great fun in the instant action I made it back and landed. Alittle sloppy and had to go around once as I came in too hot. ( been playing IL-2 1946 landing missions too much lately and use to the slow flying dive bomber lol) On my first aproach I couldnt even put my gear down by the time i was a mile away from the runway lol so flew a circle to bring the speed down lined up again and bounced her in lol.
  7. Okay Due to everyones suggestion that the AV8R-02 despite being "xbox/pc capable" is really not pc compatible what so ever, and a few frustrating evenings trying to prove them wrong lol, has led to me giving up the notion of flying on pc with that stick, all is not lost cause I can use it for the few games on xbox I have. I was going to just grab the logitech 3d or attack 3 stick as they are both like 25 bucks at best buy and I had a 10$ gift card. But then I saw the X-52 was on sale for 60 $. I had planed on saving up for atleast the pro flight x-52 but I couldnt pass up getting a hotas for 50$ all told. Now like I said in some of my previous posts I havent flown a good flight sim since the days of Janes USNF 97 and similar offshoots. And then I had my Logitch stick that prob had 5-6 buttons a throttle slider and a pov hat. Now I have a X-52 with a bagillion different things. 2 pov hats, sliders, spin dials, and up to 6 modes ? which I assume is like radio presets so I can program one version of whatever buttons then another and switch between multiple layouts mid game by hitting the clutch button and changing the selector. Needless to say Im hopelessly overwhelmed. Obviously I know the axis's to set and triggers and such. But are there recommendations for other things? Id rather have a preset layout and then change things to my own liking later than try to come up something from scratch. Is that what the Profiles are? Lastly the software cd that came with it says it only runs on xp64 and I have vista. I went to the saitek website and seleected the x-52 and my 64 vista system and downloaded the driver and software it said, but I didnt get a chance to test that yet. so hopefully the downloaded software will work when I get home from work. so I'll hopefully be able to program it and whatnot when I get home. But I have SF2:Vietnam and Im lost enought trying to learn how to fly jets all over again (from my 10 year hiatus) as well as learn how to manipulate the tech of that era, I dont know what things should be mapped to the stick and what things shouldnt. So if anyone can help me out or point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. I asked a similar question in an IL-2 1946 forum but obviously WW-2 era is alittle less complicated as I dont have as many different controls as radars and MDF's and such to manipulate.
  8. Take two:X-52

Should I just play stock for a bit or grab that expansion pack "gold": http://forum.combatace.com/files/file/10189-sf2v-air-ground-war-expansion-pack-v20-gold-part-1/ It sounds pretty good. Should I just play quick missions for a bit? Thanks for all the help. Im very excited to get back into the sky!
  9. Take two:X-52

As some have said its kinda a self learn process. I take it the game doesnt have much tutorial? I didnt get a chance to poke much last night as it was late and I was passing out and hadnt gotten the stick set up all the way yet. But how would people recommend one to get their wings back while learning a new set up like a hotas. I usually try to start in more or less realistic settings as I find playing with handicaps only creates bad habbits. And I have a good understanding of flight mechanics, but what about trying to learn all the secondary stuff. radar, target tracking, weapons systems other than guns. from my bits of reading the radar/ mdfs and such are pretty realistically done. Is there tutorials how to use these? Also I saw the "vietnam expansion pack" or something or other in the downloads section that seemed like a very nice all encompasing mod. Would people recommend I play the game stock before adding this community add on? or does it fix and add things that would benifit me from the start. Is it just added campaign functionality and such? Thanks guys youve been great help.
  10. I had bought the av8r-02 to tide me over as it works for both xbox and pc suppsidly and was modestly priced. Till it works fine on 360 which is fine but my xbox flight sims are just arcade action flight games. I have Il-2 1946 and now SF2:V that I was excited about but couldnt get the stick drivers from the saitek website to recognize the stick and the "software" would never get past like 10% down load and then say it couldnt save it or something. In the games I was only able to get SF2:V to recognize the axis but not the buttons. Does anyone know how to program controller buttons for SF2? Its kinda a pain to fly with the stick and not have triggers or anythign working. Thanks
  11. Ok So got the SaiteK X-52. New problem the cd software says only run on windows xp64 i have vista-64 How did anyone get the stick to work for their game do you configure it with outside soft ware or with in game? also does anyone have recomendations. I havent playd a sim in years as Ive said and never had this many programmable buttons. So dont know where to even begin setting controls. What do people mean by profiles. are thos premade set ups for game and hotas combined? if so does anyone have any recs so I can get a base line and tweak my likeings from there, starting from scratch is alittle overwhelming.
  12. well i guess its not a total loss cause it works on xbox360. and i have hawx and il-2 birds of prey. But as I have a best buy rewards credit of 10$ And the saitek x-52 hotas is on sale I might grab that. Is there any reason I should not do this? or I might grab just a stick. Is the x-52 okay?
  13. Im a college engineering student who use to be a true flight sim nut. Had all the old janes games in the late 90's when I was still in grade school. Id stopped playing for awhile untill this march I stumbled across the silent hunter series and that rekindled my old love for sims. Through the subsim forums I discovered some other sim forums and the newer flight sims, obviously you have to really be looking, Sims dont get too much publicity next to the COD's and other FPSs that steal the limelight. I also got Birds of Prey for xbox 360 that quenched some thirst of flight as its a true beauty though more action orientated than a true sim. I got the Saitek AV8R that works for PC and 360, cause it was cheap I dont expect wonders from this stick, but I hope it can atleast let me fly abit till I can afford/ justify to myself dropping the $$ on a HOTAS (really drool over the Logitech with the FFB, my first stick was a logitech back in the 90s and they've always held a soft spot in my heart from my old equipment). I did pick up IL-2 1946 as well as I was always a WW2 buff, and since I started flying RC planes my love for the old warbirds has only grown. But I got the itch for more modern jets as well. I loved Janes USNF97 and the USAF games. Anyways I think Ive made my mind up to get either LOMAC or the SF2 series for my first plunge back into the sim world. Im sure after I finish my last year of school and graduate next spring I'll be able to go alittle more wild and get every sim I want. But for now I just figure one from WW2 and one more modern will quench the thirst if you will. I think im leaning towards getting SF2 and the SF2 Vietnam and Europe addons (they are addons right? thats what I could deduce from the third wire site). But why should I choose one over the other for the first jump back. Also What kind of features do we get with the newer sims, I remember the campaigns in the old games to really just be a series of missions in the same theater, so not really a difference from doing a campaign or just mission builders, or recreates of real campaigns (I believe the original longbow I played a gulf war campaign.) But I hear alot about dynamic campaigns and such for these new games. So Im just looking for a scoop and seeing if anyone would recommend one sim over the other. Thanks guys!
  14. Okay basic question now, picked up veitnam, and its been so long im completly lost is there training any where?
  15. okay one last query for you as ive been reading through some stuff and I do plan on picking up vietnam and europe, I assume a merged install is some how combining the games. Do they all load when you load the game then? or is it just for mod convinience, and how do you do one?
  16. Thanks guys!!! I think I stumbled across another great community just like the Subsim boards.
  17. Thanks, thats a real nice feature from third wire all right. I like em already, think i just might pick it up and download it when I get home if my stick is in. Thanks for all the help guys, Im sure i'll be back to pick your guys brains later, but one final question alot of people have recommended for IL-2 to just play the game stock as there inst much of a need for mods other than adding personal preferences, so I understand. Is there any must haves for TW series' or should I just start with stock and see how I like and what I want to add. I was lucky enough to stumble on the subsim forum from the start of my silent hunter career to learn that pretty much every rendition of the game required one of the mulitple super mods to make the game a real jem. But unlike the subsims seems like the devs of these flight sims put more time and effort. I just wanted to make sure there was nothing I needed right off the bat, try it out then add planes or other mods to taste I guess.
  18. So when I buy I download an installer file. and I can copy that to other computers to install on mulitple places? thanks thats cool. Cause I was gonna be out of town at my gf's place and I just ordered my joystick to be shipped there. (She lives where I go to college. but Im living at home for 6 months for an internship so I go visit on weekends) so i bring my lap top. I'll probably buy it then to get a taste this weekend then put it on my desktop when I get back. I was trying to read through the knowledge base here but most of it seems to be pertaining to the SF1 series and wings over ____ series. Also it seemd on the third wire site there werent many patches on the download page concurent with the patches listed in our knowledge base. If I buy and download now will I get a patched version or will I still have to patch the game? if so where do I find those. Thanks.
  19. If I buy the SF2 series from third wire web site can I download to 2 places. I have a desktop and lap top. My desktop can definatly run it but if my lap top can it would be nice to have it on both.
  20. So SF2 and the likes of SF2:vietnam or Europe are all stand alones? I figured the differnt theaters were like expansion packs. Thats nice to know Thank you. I was definatly interested in vietnam or europe. And I thank you for your info on SHQ, I just wanted to poll the field so to speak, seems theres lots of different flight sim forums so I joined here SHQ and missions 4 today I think so I could poke around. Again thank you all. Edit: just saw your post on my SHQ thread. What mods do you speak of are they game play mod fixes or more add ons. also im not the most computer savy and loved how in the silent hunter series i could run most mods with JGSME are mods for these games easy to install and understand?
