When I consider how much money I have spent going to movies that might have entertained me for 2 hours, I don't have a problem with giving TK some more money.

Agreed. I've spent $50 on a meal I wish'd I hadn't ate.. And also, I feel that this is a bit of a "thank you" to TK for all those years of enjoyment. I bought the sims, and then this wonderful community here helped me continue to play those sims for many years past what was probably envisioned. Yes, I know we also say thank you to TK by buying stuff, add-ons, etc..but the community IS small, and I'm guessing he isn't buying Ferraris with the proceeds of Strike Fighters sales. I'm just happy he is taking a glance back at the PC world. I'm convinced he wants to make the best sim he can for the money, and I'm willing to play the lottery with some of my money to maybe help that happen.

I love DCS for what it does, but sometimes I want the relaxed atmosphere of SF2 type sim-play and I don't really see ED heading much in that direction. I have a dozen modules for DCS World that I don't know how to use (and I still love them), whereas I can crank up SF2 and be dropping bombs (and getting shot down) in minutes. I feel it is important to support this type of sim. I get that others may feel another way about it..and that's fair.

  2. OK - before I screw up my campaign data, I figured I'd better ask.

First - I've backed up my campaign save files, so hopefully I can't screw anything up too far.

I'm flying a Burning Sands Mercenary campaign and I've earned enough money to upgrade from the F-100D to some other aircraft. In the arming menu drop down list - I see the A-4B, C and E, but in keeping with the Dhimar theme, I'd like to use ValAstur's awesome looking AF-4Dh Desert Skyhawk..but it isn't listed as one of the planes in the dropdown menu. I've been trying to insert the entries into my campaign data files, but the game locks up after my entries. Restoring my original campaign files gets me back to where I was.

    Any ideas?

    EDIT - SOLVED (I think):

Hey, I had success..although it may be a hack way to do it. I just took the skin files for the AF-4Dh and put them in the A-4E directory, renamed the AF-4Dh file names to match the A-4E naming convention, and now I can pick that skin from the A-4E loading screen in the campaign. Probably not the RIGHT way to do it..but I think it will work...

  3. Haha..yeah, it can be frustrating. What is somewhat unique about Strike Fighters is that there is (generally) a traceable path to follow that can sometimes help identify where you went wrong. But I can't tell you how frustrating it has been to have like six windows open..and then I can't remember what or if I edited in an ini..and I can't even remember which one I was supposed to be working with..LOL. Mad respect to those that can juggle all the brain teasers and that are so intimately familiar with how SF2 works.

  4. Man, I worked on this for hours last night. And now two hours this morning - and I'll be darned if I can't crack the code. I've been through the knowledge base (unfortunately some pictures are now missing from some of the posts I was referencing). Now, I know you guys would be able to fix this in about 30 seconds. Which makes it all the more embarrassing that I couldn't figure this out.

I'm trying to fly the Burning Sands campaign as a Mercenary, but using ValAstur's cool Desert Aggressors F-100D skin.

I've tried a million ways to Sunday trying to get it to show up in the campaign but I'm completely stumped. I know I'm probably only missing one line or character in my ini editing. Instead of me asking WHY what I'm doing ISN'T working..I'll ask a simpler question: How would you make that skin flyable in Burning Sands as a Merc? Your answer will be far less convoluted than what I just went through.. :stars:

As usual..many thanks for helping the blind squirrel toward the nut... :blind:

NEVERMIND!! I figured it out thanks to that excellent editing document posted just a few below my post here..!

I think what I was doing wrong was not changing the extracted campaign data name to something unique perhaps and so when I launched the campaign kept trying to load the default Burning Sands instead of the one I had modified...
