snapple2993 Posted February 19, 2003 Posted February 19, 2003 What does the rope on top of this cap (USMC officer dress cap)signify. Quote
SDirickson Posted February 19, 2003 Posted February 19, 2003 The rope was used in early ship battles for Marine snipers to properly identify comrades on the enemy ship through the smoke. The Marine snipers were in the top rigging of the ship, and could see down and pick out the little rope. Quote
SDirickson Posted February 19, 2003 Posted February 19, 2003 Kinda ironic, I just saw a this on the History Channel about an hour ago, Coincidence? Quote
snapple2993 Posted February 19, 2003 Author Posted February 19, 2003 Bastard... thats what I saw, I was hoping I would get a marine to answer, well done Dickerson, well done. I just thought it was a very nice peice of obscure american history... now tell me, why do the marines carry a saracen sword, an since when and why is there a red stripe on the pant leg... that wasnt on the sniper expose on the history channel.
