Modding basics ?

I am really starting to enjoy this sim and see the potential. :)

I tried OFF2, but CFS3 ruined it (how about some views ?, not every1 has TIR4)

 

Anyhow, I am a little lost on how some of the effects mods work.

I D/Led the "smoke pak" and it is to be extracted to the "effects" folder.

The new effects each have a "config file" with a name (ex. fuelfire).

But You are not replacing existing effects files, these are new ones ?? so how does the program know to "call on" this new effect when needed ??? are there hundreds of Effects that are programed into FE, that FE "calls on" that do not exist ?, waiting for 3rd parties to make ??

 

I'm lost, can some one give Me the quick tour ?

Is there a guide for modding FE ?

You might want to check out the Strike Fighters/WOV/WOE Knowledge base as it's basically all the same as they use the same game engine.

The game usually reads from the .cats but if you have something extracted it will read that before looking in the .cats.

This is doubly good as if you screw up somewhere you can remove it & the game will go back to reading the .cats.

 

You can get the .cat extractor from the downloads section here at CA.
