hey v. D,

I'm curious, what's your inspiration for the series of "captured planes" skins lately? It certainly is an interesting aspect of history I was unaware of. How many captured AC were actually implemented in this way?

While these repainted AC must have caused immense disorientation among enemy pilots when engaged, was that what they were ultimately after? Sort of a wolf-in-sheep's-clothing... The few crosses that were painted on the latest skin are quite small, and as you mentioned, many other British marks were not covered up [perhaps yet?].

Were they used for special missions? Or were supplies of their own AC inadequate, or technologically inferior at the time? In other words, what's the whole story, if there is one?

Perhaps I'm missing some aspect of the game, or assuming too much here, but they seem to be very special unique skins, so I am tending not to download them at this time since it would diminish their character to see them show up too often (I usually fly British, but sometimes Baron von Heimlich likes to take to the skies to run up his score of Tommies). What kind of missions do you fly them with, or recommend them in???

That said, I do appreciate the craftsmanship you demonstrate...

(S!) ALL hi ;-)

@ Bandy, my inspiration for doing these is that you do not see them much if at

All in any flying sim, I have a few more Allied then on to some Central planes,

There is not a hole lot of info on exact missions that they did, some where fitted

With German guns for operational use over the lines, in Windsock vol 20 #1

Jan/ Feb 2004 there is a 3 page article from Greg VanWyngarden where he talks

About the Breguet 14 and others, am looking for some info on some captured

Nieuports that had seen much front line use and a few other planes as well.

Am hopping to inspire some of the FE guys here who write missions, to write

Some unique missions for them.

Kissenberth's fate is testimony to how difficult it was to fly the Camel.

Even a pilot of his experience (He obtained his pilots badge in October 1914!) could come unstuck flying it:

On the 29th of may 1918 he was severely injured when he crashed the Camel on landing. He spent the next two months in hospital and his combat career was over...

Regards.

That was exactly what I was thinking when I commented earlier; make nifty missions for them!

BUT then I thought, how do you incorporate a remarked aircraft into the game so that the "wolf-in-sheep's-clothing" aspect of the skin is expressed AND recognized as such by the AI ??? That is, if that aspect of duplicity is what you're after as a player flying the AC.

But then [follow me here] it would be like shooting fish in a barrel if AI opponents only recognize captured/remarked aircraft as friendly (the sheep aspect) when you're trying to shoot them down... For it to really work in the game, there would have to be an AI "switch" for recognition of "the wolf" according to some distance factor and recognition of aggressive behaviour by the remarked aircraft. Not so easy I would think...

Getting the plane in the game if you fly for the Germans is not a problem.

Leading a flight of DVII's

Definately not a "friendly".....

Just make a separate plane copying the Camel folder then renaming it German Camel or whatever and drop the skin in the folder. Then rename the Camel.ini file to German Camel.ini, change the AircraftFullName= and AircraftShortName= to German Sopwith Camel in the .ini file. Open your Camel_Data.ini and change the NationName=RAF to GERMANY. You can then select the German Camel to fly in Single Missions. To keep the German Camel a single AC just change the other planes in your flight to another type of AC in the loadout screen. Or you can add the German Camel as an AI in any flight by choosing it in one of your flight slots if you are flying a different AC. Now getting it to show up as a single plane in an enemy flight while you are flying for the English is another matter. I haven't thought about that yet.... Leaving the folder in game as is will likely get you a whole flight of German Camels as opponents in game generated Single missions. :dntknw::biggrin:

(S!) ALL hi ;-)

Wow! this is great, I think the way to keep down what you would

See of them in a game generated single missions is in the line in the

Camel Data ini change the, Availability=Rare, and now you should

Not see it much if at all,.... can we even use, =very rare??? don't know.

According to the SF Notes the options are rare, common, and very common. Rare would help keep them from showing up at random too often. Perhaps a mission could be created with a friendly (English/French) flight and two enemy (German) flights arriving at the target area a short time apart with the captured AC being the second enemy flight. Then you could have a furball going on with the captured AC involved...possibly?
