Landing after a Mission

for some reason, after I complete a mission and put my jet on auto, it never goes back to its base. it just lands anywhere . is there a fix for this ?

I've seen something like this with other AI planes doing this using F6 - they normally land way short of the airfield, but eventually "drive" to runway. I realize this doesn't help you solve your problem...

 

Is this with a stock aircraft on a stock map?
