nele Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 I think everybody recognize the tail, but check the nozzle: Now, we'll have to see, is it made for specific user (read: India) or "in-house" demonstrator that is looking for a buyer (read: India, again ) More pictures and info on Russian, but with the link to Google (bad) translation at http://pilot.strizhi.info/2008/03/21/5256#more-5256 Nele Quote
76.IAP-Blackbird Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Looks good, something like a F-16 but without Pit updates? Quote
ghostrider883 Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 WOw!!! That's nice. A few months ago there were reports about Indian MiG-27Ms being re-engined with AL-31s. Can anyone translate the text from Russian to English? I tried Babelfish, but it didn't work. It would certainly be great if our upgraded MiG-27s get re-engined with AL-31s. The AL-31 should give the MiG-27 more range and lesser maintainence problems. The Indian tri-colour marking that this MiG-27 carries is almost the same as the first MiG-27 that was upgraded by HAL. +Gr.Viper Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Well, they made a MiG 27 with AL-31 engine. Thrust increased by 1000kg, weight reduced by 200kg, fuel efficiency up 15%. Initially they plan to upgrade 60 planes out of India's ~150. MiG-23BM and MiG-23 can be upgraded with this engine too. Quote
nele Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 Viper, that is correct. Only, If they took 200kg from the tail, they had to make at least some CG modification (at least, how fuel tanks are emptied). Or to hang two 100kg bombs as standard armament on rear-fuselage pylons It is not clear is it Indian "ML" or Russian "M" (or "D") from the pictures. I guess it is Indian "ML", but the in-cockpit display has been prudently removed. There is still quite a number of BN's and export MLD's in use (Lybia, Syria). Those latter might benefit from "OR" regime, too (Al-31F WEP ) Quote
Gr.Viper Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 It is not clear is it Indian "ML" or Russian "M" (or "D") from the pictures. It's not even clear whose plane that is Top has Indian colours, bottom is Russian. Just a show-off... Or to hang two 100kg bombs as standard armament on rear-fuselage pylons Or use slimmer pilots...
