Dear Modders and Skinners,

may I beg you please to make file names for aircraaft a bit more specific?

I´ve got three F-4F skins on my computer

Goose´s F-4F skin

crab_02´s F-4F skin

Marcelo´s germany1 skin.

If you could name the aircraft/skins like

F-4F 1972

F-4F 1980

F-4F ICE

it would be easier to run all skins for me (and others?) without renaming them

Kindest regards

Guest Sony Tuckson

understand your problem

but as so many modders work, that seems hard to avoid

up to final user to correct names and ini files to suit his own needs

no offense meant

Hi Sony,

first of all I can imagine that there is a problem but it could be managed for example by using a file name F-4F-ST.zip or F-4E-C5. What I mean is to put the initials of the auther to the file name.

To use self renamed aircraft could cause problems for use them in MP.

I just don't see this happening, Adding of my name to the file name. Or for that matter searching around to see if someone else has used that name. To try and avoid conflicts though I try to keep the name as short as possible, as such VMFA-451 becomes just 451.The reason to keep the file names as short as possible is that there is a 32 character limit in th efilenameformat line in the decals.ini. This is the line that lets us include a deacls folder inside the skin folder instaed of you having to keep all the decals in the aircraft folder. So So you see there are going to be conflicts with some of this stuff unfortunatley we'll just have to find a way to deal with it.

Stiker01:

You can always rename the files to suit your taste and needs, though I see your point.

Getting everyone to name things in one way is practically impossible and will prove a battle lost before you get half-way into convincing them to do that. Even getting them to read what you want will not succeed in getting to everyone involved in making planes, as you cannot be sure they will visit all forums at all times--another impossibility here.

I rename my files when I deem it necessary and have no problems at all. :D
