-Peregrine- Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I've done a fair bit of research on this. I'm trying to run F4:AF on a 1680x1050 monitor resolution. I'm able to select that resolution on the settings screen; that's not a problem. I'm aware of the left- and right-side black bars in 2D cockpit view; I just ordered the payware widescreen pits, but have yet to download them... I expect them to work great. The only remaining problem is the simulator's main menu. For some unknown reason, the menu screen is shifted upwards on the monitor about 10%... cutting off the top of the menu. As a result, several key buttons and selections can't be seen as they're above the top of the monitor... and I know they're hovering just off the top of the monitor, because if I move my mouse off the top of the screen and start "clicking around" I'll eventually hit a button I can't see, and a new menu will come up. What should I do? Screenshot inbound... Chris Quote

JediMaster Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Have you tried adjusting the monitor? I think the menus and the in-game graphics run at different resolutions, so while it works fine in the cockpit you may have to fiddle with the settings for the menu. Quote
scouserlad13 Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 yeah do what JediMaster said, try messing about with the monitor settings, adjust the picture position until it gets in the right place, and then when you are in the game, just change it back before you take off. Quote
-Peregrine- Posted December 19, 2008 Author Posted December 19, 2008 Man, that's a pain in the rump! Is there a way to automatically adjust the menu position using code, I wonder? I don't think I want to fool with adjusting my screen location every time I shift to and from flight; I think I might have to convert to LO:MAC. I don't have this problem with their program. Quote
JediMaster Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 The problem really is F4's engine wasn't designed for widescreen, everything done since to help that has just been a bandage. I'm surprised it worked widescreen at ALL. Quote
-Peregrine- Posted December 20, 2008 Author Posted December 20, 2008 !!!!!! update !!!!!! I suspected that the problem might be bigger than F4AF itself, so I ran another program in 1024x768 full-screen mode... and the exact same thing happened. The first thing I did was call the monitor manufacturer, and confirm with them that the "auto-adjust" was set to "on" (which it was). This puts the problem somewhere in the computer rather than the monitor. So I upgraded my nVIDIA drivers to the latest edition, and that didn't fix anything. Does anyone know where I can find out which monitors are supported by the various nVIDIA drivers? I'm using a Westinghouse 24" (model L2410NM) monitor, in case anyone finds a list. C Quote
JediMaster Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I've not really heard of any issues with specific monitors. Do you have the driver for your monitor itself installed, or are you just using "plug n play"? That could help. Quote

Most Westinghouse monitors, including mine, don't have drivers, and are designed to be fully "plug and play". In corresponding with Westinghouse, they decided that I must have a faulty monitor, and have asked me to provide them with the serial number and receipt. I'm just glad I actually found the receipt, I thought I had lost it for a bit. I'm really glad I did find it though, because I've got a 3-year service plan with the monitor, so if they can't fix it, they'll replace it. WHEW!!!! C Quote
-Peregrine- Posted December 27, 2008 Author Posted December 27, 2008 Have you tried adjusting the monitor? I think the menus and the in-game graphics run at different resolutions, so while it works fine in the cockpit you may have to fiddle with the settings for the menu. It never occurred to me that the monitor would maintain separate position settings for separate resolutions. I just used the manual controls on the monitor to center the vertical when the display was at 1024x768, and every time thereafter that I switch from widescreen to standard resolutions, it automatically adjusts the vertical as I set it the first time. Problem solved; let's put this thread to sleep. Thanks everyone for putting up with me. ~C Quote
