OvS 8 Posted June 12, 2009 http://www.gaservesamerica.com/ CJ Long Island was the cradle of GA's infancy... it's gone to commercialism, and it looks like GA will be gone as well. Without GA, I would never have gone to Embry-Riddle, or had such a deep love for aviation. I still love dropping by Republic Airport and sniffing around the lot of Cessnas, Pipers and Mooney's just sitting there waiting to be flown. It's sad what we are doing to this contry. All the fun stuff is all slipping away to taxes, fee, permits.. etc..etc. :( OvS
Cameljockey 3 Posted June 13, 2009 I reckon the money that the government's spending has got to come from somewhere. They start by taxing the fun stuff that they reckon we don't need. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Not to mention, kinda pissed off too. I still remember the first time I ever left terra firma, it was in a Cessna 172. I was just a kid of eleven who loved to hang around the grass strip in Texas City, Texas, watching the planes come and go. One of the pilots noticed me watching and asked me if I wanted to go up and I leaped at the chance. I remember it to this day. After we landed I was so excited that I rode my bike home as fast as I could and told my Mom. She was livid! She tore my behind up! She said, "We've always taught you never to talk to strangers and you go and get in an airplane with one!" My butt hurt for a while after that, but I had no regrets. I flew!
