+allenjb42 4,234 Posted August 26, 2009 (edited) Took a trip to the Imperial Museum North in Manchester today with my nine year old daughter. She loved it, from the former Iraqi T-55 in the car park to the USMC AV-8A Harrier suspended from the ceiling in the main exhibition hall. There were artillery pieces, loads of artifacts and small arms, photos, testimonies, and even a Trabant car (a relic from the Cold War). There was an audio visual presentation showing the experiences of children in Britain during WW2 (evacuation, living through the Blitz, meeting the Yanks for the first time...) and at the moment there's a special exhibition on POWs showing the reality behind the stories in the movies of the River Kwai, the Great Escape and Coditz etc. We got to crawl through an escape tunnel, dodge the searchlights, get disguised in civvy clothes and get our passes stamped. Unfortunately my French wasn't good enough to get us to the border! I've been to the main museum in London a few times but this was the first time at the local one, even though it's only 15 minutes from home! If you're in Manchester it's well worth the visit, with two shopping malls and Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United within a couple of minutes drive from the museum for those not into that sort of stuff. And if you are coming to Manchester give me a shout. Edit: forgot to add a link to the museum's website. http://north.iwm.org.uk/ Edited August 27, 2009 by allenjb42
DWCAce 19 Posted August 27, 2009 Your Manchester museum is defiantly better than my Manchester museum. I'll have to check it out sometime!
