OvS Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Gents, If anyone can help me, or point me in the right direction, it be most appreciated. I am making yet another 'Hitler Parody' for the OFF Community. I own Downfall, so I can play with it all I want for kicks. I have ripped it, but I can't seem to remove the subtitles in anything I try to use. DVDFab, Shrink.... nothing works. Has anyone had any success in doing this with Downfall? I see them all the time on youtube without subtitles. Thanks, OvS Quote

Flyby PC Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 (edited) I'm not sure how you could stop recording them in the first place, but if you used Virtual dub, you could mask out the lower screen with a band of flat dark colour, export it to Windows Moviemaker and write your own subtitles on top. Not perfect, but it would work. Alternatively Virtualdub could also crop the image size to lose the subtitles, but that risks distorting the clip if you're not careful. I do it all the time to lose the guages in OFF clips, I always fly OFF with no guages or flight targetting tags because I'm hard. I've not gone through Gwar's list of links which I'm sure will provide a better answer, but right now, knowing what I know, that's what I would try. Edited October 19, 2009 by Flyby PC Quote

Then you only have to mux it (join the tracks) again but without the subtitles. Finally rip again into avi (or any other format). For demux use pgcdemux ( http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PgcDemux) For mux use Muxman ( http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Muxman ) If you find this method suitable to you and have any doubts PM me or write in this thread. I tried it, and it separates all the layers, however, it looks as if the subtitles are permanently in the video stream. I see no way to remove them no matter what I do. It must be the version of the movie I have? OvS Quote

OvS You could try downloading somebody elses clip from youtube, and see if you can strip off their subtitles. Quote

It's like in Photoshop with the merge function. Only in this case you cannot rebuild the layers. So you can do only two things. Use the first suggestion Flyby PC, using virtualdub in the avi file and create a dark band over the subtitles, or use the other suggestion of downloading a new version without hardsubbed subtitles. I would try the last one. Quote
