Stiffy Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Seeing as I havent updated the other thread for ages I thought I'd put up a second one as well with the stuff from 1916 that I have now managed to find. Quote
Stiffy Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 I'm also trying to track down 1914 to 1915.... I may know someone who has them but not sure yet. Quote
Luftace Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 (edited) Fantastic stuff Stiffy! Where would one begin to look to aquire their own collection? Edited November 11, 2009 by Luftace Quote
Stiffy Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 They are called "The War Illustrated" They were a weekly magazine during the war... as you collected them each week you could also buy a binder to put them in, the copies I have are all compiled in binders and look like bound books. So you don't need to collect each magazine seperately just look for complete sets in binders... Its comes in about 8 volumes altogether each the size of a thick encycolpedia. Make sure you have a large enough space on your bookshelf, after all they contain a weekly account of the entire war! Here is someone selling the first 3 volumes (which I dont have! but can't afford to spend the money at the moment) They turn up fairly often on ebay too, but dont by the ww2 version by mistake! http://reading.gumtree.com/reading/54/44921754.html http://www.greatwardifferent.com/Great_War/NewsMedia/WarIllustrated.htm Quote
Stiffy Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 There was also a deluxe real leather bound version printed as a book after the war with better quality paper. http://www.amazon.com/War-Illustrated-Album-DeLuxe-European/dp/B000LJGEHS Love the way amazon have it on their site as "Out of stock"... no sh*t!
