ip list (revisited)

Figured out how to convert a text file into a bmp, and paste it into the existing bmp that you see when you hit join game. In the old cfs3, this would be the games that are up, but as the servers are down, for the most part it is always blank.

 

If anyone does NOT want me to include thier ip, pm me, and i will omit them.

 

But imho, having a list of everyones ip right there in front of us when we hit join game would be helpful.

 

when finished, will post bmp file. those who want it can use it,,those who dont...well,,,dont,,,

 

lol..but this is just a bmp file,,,it wont screw anything up...

So the ip's would be visible whether there was a game running on it or not? Would it be a 'copy-and-paste' arrangement or do we still have to type in the ip numbers? Or (easiest) would it be a cickable list?

yes,,the info would be there all the time,,(when you click on multiplayer medal)..

 

your right,,copy and paste would be great...but beyond my scope....if someone else????

 

yep,,have to remeber,,and type in,,,,,,i did try to get the ip's into that next window,,,(the one where you actully type in the ips)...so you didnt have to remeber...but that was a disaster...

 

clickable list,,,wow...woudnt it be great if we had clickable lists for our wives..........lol...no..again,,beyond my scope, but would be great if someelse....

 

but if the list where copied onto the splash screen, (wwi initialising), and the background of the list (white) where made transparent....it wouldnt look to bad,,,and you wouldnt have to remeber the numbers.

 

unfortunatly the way i did it first,,when you click on join game,,,the popup where you enter the ip covers the list,,and you can not drag it out of the way...

you dont have to tell me this looks lousy,,,,i dont have psp here anymore, so cant make the background transparent,,,but you wouldnt have to remeber the ips,,they would be there as you had to type them in

OK, Duck, I was just curious how deep you'd been able to take this. It's still an improvement over a list on a piece of paper the Mrs. can throw away while cleaning house. I have psp and would be happy to put together a transparent version so that all you'd see is the names and numbers, but each person's list would likely be different.

I PERSONALLY THINK WE MAKE IT ONYL AVABLE THRU OUR DL SITE TO THOSE THAT ARE IN OUR GROUP AT LEAST TILL WE GET TO KNOW SOMEONE ANYWAY

I only thru all this out as a suggestion..if ppl want a list of ppls ips handy when they go join,,its possible and easy,,,now making it look good (if making that splash screen look good is really that important) is another step. And if ppl dont want the list,,they dont have to use it...pretty simple....

 

Van baur, if you have the time, and want to fool with it be my guest. I can send you the utilty i use to convert a text to bmp if you dont have one. i got jasc,,,and tried,,,with terrible results...think part of the problem is that you can make a gif transparent, but not sure if you can make a bmp transparent. One thing i did do is start in word, and make a table, and made my entries there,,that way you can sort the name colums.

 

And while i did say if ppl dont want theri ips posted, they certainly have that right, kinda find it hard to understand why anyone would try and protect something they toss out so freely in mp games...

 

so personnaly,,dont see the need to hide this list from anyone.... i mean damn,,if a new player comes on line,,,we're not going to give him the ip cause we dont know them?

JASC is Paintshop. Open a new image and set the background some off color like red or bright green. Then add text and type in what the ip's, names, whatever else (you'll want to use a collor that will stand out, not black). Use background eraser to remove all but the text and save the file. Then open the splash screen bmp, open a new raster layer, copy the image with the ip's on it and paste it as a transparent layer on the splash, move it to where you want it and click and save.

Ok,,kinda understand what you are saying, but what i was trying to avoid was having to redo the whole thing if a new player joined, and we wanted to add the ip. Which is why i went to the notepad...save as text..convert to bmp, proceedure, and just pasted the bmp into the splash screen.

 

and, you probably know this better than me,,,,but you definatly cannot have a transparent layer in a bmp,,found that out...so can you paste a gif file onto a bmp and save it??

 

in all my attempts,,,it sorta worked,,but the text got incredibly fuzzy.

 

went back and looked at the splash screen i put up in the forum, and to be honest,,it doenst look that bad to me,,,its easy,,and lol....its just a splash screen, its only up as long as it takes you to add the ip...

 

but if you can come up with something better looking,,,id would love to see it. just think its important to make it easy to add/update the numbers and names

This is what i got. Its the least obtrusive as you can get,,and see still a list. If you dont pm me, i will enter your ip. will not enter ips for anyone who has not been coming online lately. will put link to bmp in tuturial, so only ppl seeing it are those who need it the most (ie,,,new players)..

 

Any of you new pilots that think you might be hosting in the future (and i hope thats all of you)...go to whatismyipaddress.com, and get your ip if you want me to add it to the list.
