Stanner 0 Posted December 30, 2009 I am having problems with my joystick in OFF. The POV Hat does not function at all. I set up the joystick in CFS3 and saved the keyassignments as "Mine". The POV works well in CFS3, but not in OFF. I also find that the F3, F4, F5, F6 keyboard view commands are erradic. Sometimes they function, and other times they do not. I used the Ctrl+Enter command (eye point back), and the Shift+Enter command (eye point up), but was unable to return to a default view. I was stuck in these eye point back and eye point up positions. Again, I have no problems in CFS3 with my joystick or keyboard commands. I am quite frustrated since without the POV Hat working properly it is impossible to engage in dogfights and survive. Does anyone have any suggestions? I need all the help I can get. Thanks. Stanner
Kingkat 1 Posted December 30, 2009 Have you tried Testing it in your Device manager file? Should be on your Control Panel ...Hardware and Sound area. I would guess if it works there you should be good to go. Otherwise, I am not sure. BTW......I use TrakIR. My POV Hat still works too.
Stanner 0 Posted December 31, 2009 Kingkat, Thanks. I think what you are saying is that I should calibrate my joystick. Is that correct? I have calibrated the joystick, both while in CFS3, and also using the Control Panel Joystick test and calibration section. The joystick works fine in the Joystick test, and in CFS3. I have also tried to reset the joystick commands to default while in OFF, but the settings remain the same. Since outside of OFF the joystick is working fine, I must conclude that I have a problem withing OFF, and not my joystick. I try to set the joystick settings to defauflt using CFS3, clicking on restore default, then save, and tying in "Mine" as the name of the settings. Nothing changes. It could be that I have corrupt OFF files. This would mean deleting CFS3, and OFF, and reinstalling. I hate to go through all that. Does anyone have any suggestions? Remember the keys F3, F4, F5, F6 also do not always work correctly. Thanks. Stanner
Kingkat 1 Posted December 31, 2009 YES. If my memory serves, (and at my age I get lousy service!!!!LOL).......when you are calibrating your JS, does it recognize the POV Hat Switch? Otherwise, the POV Hat Switch may not work. I am using an old MS Sidewinder Precision Pro style JS. Also, check out the OFF Game Commands sheet. It shows all the buttons, keyboard functions available in the game. Forget where it is, but its here on site somewhere. This may help, because I do not see very many key commands using those buttons you are having trouble with. Usually combined with another key to complete a command. Hope that helps......................Happy New Year
Stanner 0 Posted December 31, 2009 Thank you. Yes, my joystick works fine when I calibrated it, this includes the POV Hat switch on the joystick.. I have a copy of the CFS3 command sheet. These commands are the same for OFF with the exception that some keyboard commands do not apply to OFF, such as Brakes, Gear and Flaps. The joystick POV Hat commands usually show up as one "button" on the listing of commands in most sim games. This is one button that all sims automatically assign views when the game is installed. I will try to reset the keyboard/joystick commands to "default" (have not been able to do this), and see if that corrects the problem. The problem is obviously with the OFF sim, since the joystick works well with CFS3, FS2004, and when tested during calibration. I hope that I do not have some corrupt files in OFF. Again, if anyone has a suggestion please pass it on to me. Thanks. Stanner
Stanner 0 Posted December 31, 2009 Kingkat, In Device Manager, sound, video and game controllers.....there is no ? symbol which indicates all is well. I had the joystick plugged in before I went to Device Manager. What do you mean by "testing the joystick in Device Manager"? I had the joystick plugged in, and went to Device Manager. NO JOYSTICK was shown in sound, video and game controllers. Should one appear if it is plugged in? Stanner
Kingkat 1 Posted December 31, 2009 As I recall, YES the Game Controller should recognize he JS. Should be in the Control Panel file. IF your PC/ OS ain't seeing the JS maybe thats the problem? Otherwise.......................you may need to seek out truly Professional Help. His name is Sitting Duck. We'll get there.
Stanner 0 Posted January 1, 2010 Kingat, The game controller in the Control panel does recgonize my joy stick. However, I do not see it in the Device Manager, sounds, video, and game controllers. Should it be there? Stanner
Stanner 0 Posted January 1, 2010 I deleted OFF and patches. I reinstalled OFF and patches. The same situation no POV Hat. In Virtual Cockpit I have to use Num Lock keys #1 through #9. to get views other than direct to the front. This is to me a great disadvatange in a dog fight. It is a pitty that my POV Hat switch will not work. I really can not spend much time with OFF since I would not last one minute without the ability to pan my view while in Virtual Cockpit. There is nothing wrong with my joystick. The problem is in Off. A pity I paid money for a sim I wil most likely not use. Stanner
Stanner 0 Posted January 1, 2010 Ok problem solved. The NUM LOCK must be OFF for the POV Hat views to work. However, the POV Hat views are not a smooth pan, but rather jumps from one view to another. Stanner
Kingkat 1 Posted January 1, 2010 My Bad!! Its not the Device Manager, but the Game Controller file. I am glad you got your POV Hat to work. Didn't realize about the Num Lock. Yea, I have noticed it does jump a bit. Its why I purchased the TrackIR System. Takes the guess work out of where the baddies are. And I just love the way the wifey rolls her eyes as I am flying with my headset and the little traingular thingy on my hat!!! Next item..........a real silk scarf.............. Dragonfly68 0 Posted January 2, 2010 i seem to have a different issue with my flight stick . It is a microsoft pro forcefeed 2 . Now my issue is the force feed will only work if i calibrate before each mission. as a new mission is booting up the force feed goes dead. So i hit ESC and go into the controls ,from the drop down list , from there i choose the option to calibrate . Everytime I save over existing profile , and it turns the force feed back on . rather strange and a big pain to re-calibrate before every mission . Any ideas DF
