UK_Widowmaker 571 Posted October 6, 2010 Well, as I now live only 3 miles from my local airport, I have been making enquiries into working there on the Ramp. Although, you don't need any formal qualifications, I am off to the College this evening, to look at studying for a Certificate in the Aviation Environment, to keep me going, until February, when the recruitment effort is put into place. It's been a dream of mine for many years, which is rapidly becoming an obsession!...Never having lived near enough to an Airport to warrant going for it, and having my own IT Business to tide me over the 'Lay off' months between Oct 31st - March 1st, means I am now able to realise this dream (hopefully) Please wish me luck, on today's first step...and if anyone has a similar job, or indeed experience of Airport Life on the Ramp, I'd love to chat to you Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I believe. DWCAce 19 Posted October 6, 2010 Yup, I'm and the OTHER Manchester. Servisair and Swissport are major players in the ground handling of a/c these days. My company is the sole on airport provider of fuel, and we provide primary de-icing for some of the airlines & all GA, and backup de-icing for everyone. We our ground handling, as far as airlines go, is limited to when we have military and civil (mostly casino) charters. I'm a training specialist that spends most of the time fueling, supervising, deicing, and not enough time in the office (there's always paperwork!). Let me know if you have any questions!
