Javito1986 14 Posted March 28, 2011 (edited) I've been reading Laurence Dri- Eddie Rickenbacker's book "Fighting the Flying Circus" on my Kindle. Bought it off Amazon for $1. It's fantastic, such an amazing account of the aviator's WW1 career. I also purchased Peter Kilduff's latest Red Baron: Life and Death of an Ace, Der Rote Kampflieger by you know who, and McCudden's Flying Fury. What else is out there, available digitally? Believe me I much prefer having a physical hardcover text, but the kindle is comfortable to read on and great for traveling, and it's a nice way to pass the time at school or just in general while I'm awaiting The Stand and High in the Empty Blue. TaillyHo 2 Posted March 28, 2011 Hey Javito, Presume you know about RAF_Louvert's wonderful collection of e-books in the OFF downloads (scenery & ground objects) section (?). The Rickenbacker title you mention is in there (free!), as is 'The Red Fighter Pilot' by MvR (also available very cheaply from Amazon). I have downloaded Eric Wood's 'Top British Fighter Pilots of World War One' from Amazon, but haven't read it yet - I think it was also very cheap. I have these e-books on my 'wish list' at Amazon: Winged Victory Immelmann: The Eagle of Lille Knight of Germany: Oswald Bolecke German Ace The First Air War 1914-1918
RAF_Louvert 101 Posted March 29, 2011 . Uncleal, good on you Sir to keep pointing folks towards that post; lots of fine things there. And thanks TaillyHo for reminding folks of my WWI books downloads. It appears they have been popular as, in total, they have been downloaded nearly 550 times at this point. I have set #6 nearly full so that one will be added in the near future. Cheers! Lou .

No, no - thank you, Sir. Another virtual 'shelf' from Lou's e-library - perhaps in time for a little Easter reading . . . great stuff!
Javito1986 14 Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) The best thing about reading so many WW1-era texts is that it reminds you of just how accurate OFF is. When I read Fighting the Flying Circus I can clearly visualize everything in my head and anticipate what's about to happen. For example, when Rick first gets in the game and he's eager for a kill and dives down on some Albatros in a Nieup 28 I said "Fool, you're going to rip your wings off!" Sure enough that's what happened! Makes me feel like such a wisened old vet Edited March 29, 2011 by Javito1986
