SDirickson 0 Posted November 4, 2004 I haven't had this much fun with a sim since Jane's WWII Fighters came out. Theres a major difference 'tween the two though. I can run Pacific Fighters at perfect settings with 4xFSAA and get damn respectabl frame rates. This, coupled with a TrackIR2 means I'm in simming bliss. Nothing better than coming in to a carrier shot up only to bounce on landing and get slammed into the deck by the hook. Or to come diving out of the clouds on a swarm of Zeke's in your Hellcat. Or flying CAS during the island hopping invasions. Jesus this thing is fun. Now to get those little things added to the sim, like more weather effects, better radio simulation with the carrier and flight groups and net barriers on the carriers. Oh, and some more varied terrain textures and water colors. I have a feeling its in the works though. Lets put it this way, what better way to spend election day than recreating Pearl Harbor while your absentee balot is safely being counted home in Texas? +Fates 63 Posted November 4, 2004 It is definately fun.... The lack of differential braking does not make me happy though. Has anyone tried to setup toe brakes? In real life, I can spin a taildragger around on a dime. This comes in handy on a carrier...when your getting used to the take off, and wanna back taxi. <C> Fates
PG_Raptor 0 Posted November 4, 2004 Man, I am so out of practice... All I've been doing for the past several days is doing 1 on 1 dogfights. I've gotten back into the sqing of things, I think, so I've been trying to find different planes capabilities and such. There's so many planes to figure out though... I've mainly only used the F-4 Corsair, but I've touched on the hellcat a little too. But man, I'm having fun doing it. I'm gonna have to practice a LOT, but I think in the end it will pay off. SDirickson 0 Posted November 4, 2004 I've had pretty good success by just using the normal brakes, full rudder and then using the throttle to control turn rate. I can normally keep the aircraft within its own wingspan. Thats my problem, I can never pick a single aircraft and focus on it. There are so many, and they're all so well modelled I keep switching back and forth between 'em all. I'm gonna try and do a campaign soon, maybe that'll keep my attention centered. PG_Raptor 0 Posted November 4, 2004 Yeah, see, that's my problem, I'm concentrating too much on one plane, the F4U-1C. I could probably start kicking some butt in that plane. But put me in a P-40, and you'll see me stall out many times before I learn to handle it right. Put me in a F4F-3, and you'll see me try to go into a vertical battle without the necessary power. I've tried the P-38, man is that thing fast, but it also stall's really easily, at least from what I've seen of it, it's not a turning fighter. So we'll see how it all ends up. Someday I'll master all of them, but for now, I'm pleased with just the F4U-1C :D
