Weird freeze when hitting ESC

Well, when I press Esc, and freeze (I cannot see the Debriefing- Menu, instead the screen just freezes at a weird angle but you can hear the menu music still. I already installed the Patch, the DeusEx d3d9.dll and included ddraw.dll. (Wings over Europe, Steam-Version)
