Coming back to EAW after about 5 years

After playing a number of mideval or fantasy RPGs I have decided to come back to air combat sims.  I remember EAW to be a relatively easy one to play (for me).  I did buy a copy from GOG, but there seems to be some very interesting traffic on line about the PRO version.  I am wondering if I should go back to the 1.2 version of the game or just download and install the PRO version?

You can always make a copy of your GOG EAWv1.2 in a second folder and then put EAWPRO over it. Thus having two versions or types of the game to play.
