Some questions on MIG-19

It was great, if you could answer some questions concerning the MIG-19. I enjoy the MIG-19S in the Aces of North Vietnam mod a lot, just because I find it to be of classical style.

 

1. I never noticed redout/blackouts when flying on North Vietnamese side. Can this be switched-on/off or is it a feature on the SOVIET side? I find it somewhat discriminating to fly without, it makes turn fights too easy.

 

2. The MIG-19 seems too handle very easy, seldom any hard stalls or alike. In my feeling e.g. the Crusader has much sharper and unforgiving attitudes. Is this for real? If not, did somebody perhaps tune the flight-model to be more realistic and challenging. It's a pitty, I do not know how to do it myself, I am not an aero-engineer.

 

3. Has anybody ever modded a "true" MIG-19 cockpit? I use the one that came with Aces of North Vietnam, the black MIG cockpit, or an early Sukhoi cockpit. They are all great - thanks! - but it ain't the real thing.

 

4. I am considering to buy a MiG-19 book, either ISTVAN TOPERCZER "MiG 17 & MiG 19 Units of the Vietnam War" or YEFIM GORDON "Mikoyan-Gurevich MIG 19". Any recommendations?

One must keep in mind that all the default MiGs in this series were intended to be AI-controlled adversary aircraft, and their flight models were optimized to that end.

 

That being said, there are a few third-party FMs available for the default MiGs. Kreelin and I made one of the MIG-21MF, and I made one for MiG-17F some time ago. Both compare favorably with published data.

 

The '17F in particular displays the handling quirks that are unique to that aircraft (loss of pitch and roll authority at speed).

 

I was in the process of working on an FM for the '19, but put it aside to work on other projects. There's a decided lack of published data on that bird, that is, data that would be useful in producing an accurate flight model.
