Dagger 21 Posted November 13, 2006 For those of you that have been following PT-Boats: Knights of the Sea, We've mustered up a little interview with Yuri Iosifov from the "Akella" Company on the matter. Be sure to visit their website at http://www.pt-boats.net/. CA) I've seen there are already online communities for your simulation. Are you and the Development Team excited that people are already starting to get ready for the release of your sim? Yuri- To tell you the truth I treat such things doubtingly. People are always imagining such a game that is impossible to make and the result of it all is a disappointment with the product even if it is perfect. The developers think positive of such communities as it shows that the game is eagerly expected. But the only good from it all I see in the responsibility before those people. I want to mention that one shouldn't be prepared for the SIM release but for the GAME with sim elements release. CA) When people think of PT Boats they think of the Pacific Theatre, yet you have decided to work on the Atlantic Theatre. Is there a factor that made you decide to use this part of the war? What part of the Atlantic will be the primary battlefields? Yuri- The game is being made in RF so it is natural that we pay a lot of attention to our home land which fought along with others against Hitler's death machine. The most complicated battles took place in Baltic. Black and Barents Seas will also be involved but not the Atlantic Ocean. CA) Will you be able to run missions in the Pacific Theatre? Yuri- It won't be hard for us to move the action of the game to the Pacific and Atlantic Theatre in probable addons. CA) Can you give us more detail on options available for those simmers that enjoy a multi-player experience? Yuri- It's a bit early to speak about a multiplayer mode as it won't be presented in the game itself and may appear only in addon or in patch. But I may lift the curtain from one of the game's unique features: several players can be a crew of one boat and act in different roles, rifleman, captain, torpedo rifleman. CA) Will there be a mission generator and/or will there be dynamic campaigns? Yuri- That is a very interesting question. And the big deal is that our campaigns are the separate battle episodes of the World War 2. One of such episodes is devoted to Denmark's and Norway's lodgment by Germany and another is devoted to corsairs haunting. Each episode consists of 4 to 6 missions which at the same time can be played for both parts. So if the mission deals with battles between USSR and Germany one may take part of any of them. Of course there will be single missions. CA) Everyone enjoys different aspects of games produced today. One of those aspects, especially in simulation is mod-ability. Can you tell us more about the mod-ability of the game? Yuri- Unfortunately we won't be able to afford you editing program but we are planning to include it to addon or patch. CA) The damage as seen in several of your screen shots looks incredible. Can you describe for us how you plan to approach damage modeling? Yuri- Damages differ depending where a round will fall as each boat is divided into separate damage sections. I believe it is clear that armor-plated parts won't be damaged a lot while a torpedo hit a fault part may cause total destruction. CA) There appears to be a great selection of enemy and friendly ships. Can you tell us if other ships players can command? Yuri- As far as RTS is concerned a player will be able to manipulate any accessible sea unit while in the Sim regime one can control only motorboats (1st person view) and ships (3rd person view). CA) I'm sure there will be an incredible request for this simulation around the world. What are your plans for game distribution? Yuri- The Publisher is to distribute the product and of course we are planning to introduce it to the European and American markets. CA) What are your minimum system requirements with your present build? - P4 2.0Ghz, 512MB RAM, GeForce 4 (except MX series)/Radeon 8500. Optimizing works are still in progress. CA) I know everyone is patiently waiting release. Do you have any plans to release a demo for us to enjoy in the mean time? Yuri- No doubt. CA) What are the strong points of this sim that our readers will be most excited about? Yuri- First of all it is a mix of RTS and Sim regimes in one game and unordinately campaign realization. A player is free to choose duty positions starting with captain of motorboats echelon up to ring mount rifleman. Thank You Yuri for the time to answer a few question and best of luck on PT-Boats: Knights of the Sea. You can visit their website at http://www.pt-boats.net/.
