First the disclaimer and legal mumbo-jumbo:

You download and install this add-on aircraft at your own risk, it's been tested on several dis-similar systems and caused no problems but your mileage my vary.

This aircraft model is not endorsed by TK or Third Wire.

The model, cockpit and base paintjob were done by me alone so any errors are my fault, complaints and suggestions should be directed to me at the Stike Fighters Forum at SimHQ.

You are free to distribute this add-on aircraft as long as it's done as the complete orginal zip file including this read-me file.

You are also free to repaint it in any manner you chose.

You are not free to charge for it or otherwise try to make money with it.

Copy all the .tga file from the Tomahawk\3rdPursuitSq\D folder to the Aircraft folder in order for the fuselage numbers to display correctly in the game.

Operational Notes:

You'll notice that there aren't any loadout options for this plane, this is correct.

The P-40 varient sold to the Chinese Government and used by the AVG was a hybrid, the basic airframe was pulled from the production P-40C run.

But there were some noteable differences between it and the standard P-40C making it closer to the P-40B.

Like the P-40B it had no provisions for either a drop tank or bomb shackles, it had externally sealed fuel tanks and had no armor plate between the engine and cockpit.

The engines were also an anomally of sorts, due to the wording of the sales contract, the Chinese had to supply their own engines...100 engines which they didn't have.

However, the Curtiss engineers found a way around this by hand building engines from out of spec. but servicable parts.

Basically these engines were close to what race drivers call a blueprinted engine.

According the Ed Schilling, the squadron engineering officer for the AVG, the engines in their P-40's were actually built to tighter tolerances, which gave them more power and better fuel consumption rates than the regular production engines.

This is reflected in this model by a very slight increase in max speed over the 352 mph of the standard P-40B.

There is no reliable evidence that the AVG ever met the A6M2 Zero and the timeline tends to bear this out, the IJN squadrons had been moved out of China before the AVG became active and the Imperial Japanese Army had been assigned to operations in China.

Flown to it's strengths the Tomahawk was well able to handle it's main opponent, the Ki-43.

However, if you chose to fight the enemy's fight, the results were usually swift and grim, the only thing you could count on was the ruggedness and superior dive speed of the Tomahawk to drag you out of what could rapidly turn into a lethal situation.

Be aware that while this plane flys pretty well, it will stall and spin if you push it past it's limits.

The FM was designed to be flown in the Hard setting.

Have Fun.

Last words.

Why did I decide to build WWII planes when there are other sims out that cover the period?

Some of my most enjoyable simming, both on and offline, was with European Air War, I'm a confirmed WWII prop head and I make no apologies about it.

Strike Fighters has given me a platform to indulge in my favorite period to an almost unlimited extent and I'm going to take full advantage of it.
