Wodin 0 Posted January 17, 2007 At the moment I'm playing FE and having a great time. I'm a amateur historian and my passion is the WW1. I know this game is a liye sim and I was wondering whether CFS3 is worth buying to try out OFF. So how do they compare? Thanks
raven-1 0 Posted January 17, 2007 boy what acan worms this is gonna open up!personally i liked off for its basic content, you can do alot more in the sim,but it is still tied to cfs 3s crappy engine{which never worked that good}. the creators im sure worked hard into the night to do it but it fell short on several areas.i was real happy when they said the next part was gonna be a stand alone.but they changed there mind.first like i said was the engine, most important no community input{again cf 3s engine is hard for developers to crack}.it wont take long for TKs followers to surpass off on its good points.besides the sf series is just fun to fly
Dagger 21 Posted January 22, 2007 I never tried the CFS3 as I like to fly on-line and found it WAY to easy for people to cheat. From what I've read off has some really neat features, but the temptation for kids to cheat is just to much.I used to fly CF2 on-line and when a prop plane can out climb and out run a F-15 and has bullets that can kill with just one hit I knew it was time to give up on them. catch 81 Posted January 22, 2007 I'd recommend OFF in an instant and it is well worth purchasing CFS3 just for OFF imo. I wouldn't be put off by the CFS3 engine. WM and his team have performed miracles overcoming some of its limitations to produce graphics and FM's you wouldn't believe. For those who play on-line (I'm not one) there is a group on the OFF forum who play regularly together and there's no cheating there afaik. cheers, catch. JediMaster 451 Posted January 23, 2007 I'm one of the minority that enjoyed CFS3 for what it was. I enjoy OFF as well for what it does. Neither do I recommend for MP, however. Unless you stick with totally stock installs all around (which isn't great, they are so much better with mods) it's pointless. So, if you have a known group that flies together and that you could get all on the same page, great. Otherwise, I generally do my offline flying with CFS3 and my online (what I do of it) with Il-2. For WWI, I'm sort of out of luck though until more people get FE!
Thumper41 0 Posted January 23, 2007 Well, I have OFF and have played online many times and have had a great time doing so. Our groups are small, sometimes only 2 or 3 flying, but we also have had 12 or more online at the same time. The folks that run the games password protect them, so not just anyone can get in. As for cheaters, I haven't seen one instance of this (doesn't mean it hasn't happened, just that I personally haven't witnessed it). We are a fairly mature group age-wise -- I'm 43, which is about average, with a few younger players and quite a few older ones. We use TeamSpeak to increase the fun factor and immersion of the sim. If you are interested in some fun online flying, with great missions and great wingmen, check out the OFF forum on Sim-Outhouse http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/forumdisplay.php?f=8 -- there are announcements almost every day concerning online get togethers. Cheers! Thumper
