catch 81 Posted January 23, 2007 Anyone noticed FPS is decidedly lower flying the SE5 (in missions or campaign) than the D7 or Spad ? Also lower than the A/C mods I've downloaded to date (Gotha, M1C, DH2 & Camel). At 1000ft cockpit view the SE5 get's mid 20's FPS .... the other A/C between 50 & 60. This does become a problem when dogfighting in the SE5 as it becomes a slide show unless you use the "no cockpit" view. Would this be something to do with the flight ini files or something ? Easily remedied ? Cheers, catch.
Dagger 21 Posted January 23, 2007 no it's from the cockpit it's self. With the better graphics theres a price to be paid, and this time it's frame rate.Try turning down the options the horizon is a killer set it to low and try it.
catch 81 Posted January 23, 2007 Ok thanks Dagger. Yep the horizon option sure makes a difference. I fiddled with this and other graphic options a while back and had horizons on low but started getting "blue triangles" ..... changed it to normal and they were gone and everything looked great .... but at the cost of reduced FPS. Trouble is I like the eye candy which FE does very well. Gawd I feel a dose of tweakitis coming on
+peter01 2 Posted January 24, 2007 The SE5 does have slower frame rates, even in external views. I can understand this in the cockpit (culprit the Aldis sight?? possibly), but not externally. I don't fly this plane as much for that reason, though I'd like to. I did reduced the horizon distance and reduced the bmp files for the SE5a to 256x256 instead of standard 512x512, but not with much difference. Also tried turning shadows off for SE5 alone in the ini file- but no improvement. Are there any suggestions from the gurus about what to do to make either the cockpit or external fps better for the SE5 - or even getting rid or changing the gunsight? The other planes are fine, so I'm not keen on changing general graphic options.

I'm not keen on changing my graphic settings (which are working just fine) just to suit the SE5 as all the other aircraft get good frame rates. Can something be done ? Also, lately, a little online playing bunch of us found out that the SE5a causes CTD in Coop when playing multiplayer. So when we play Coop, we disable the SE5a.. I don`t know what makes it crash though, maybe because we turned of shadow? This will be checked out before I do any further statements. Salute! RvH
catch 81 Posted January 30, 2007 I bit the bullet rejoined Tweakers Anonymous for support and started tweaking my nvidia settings and reduced in-game graphics. Getting 60+ average FPS on all planes (except SE5) in default cockpit view. With the SE5, now getting 30+ which is a little better ..... but I wish there was some other way .... I'm getting around 9 outside view looking back at my plane and more than one other in view.
catch 81 Posted January 31, 2007 Tweaking and modding are what make this sim so much fun Yeah I'm learning a lot as I go on. With some help from some of the guys here I finally worked out what the SF extractor is and does lol ... all new to me ! But geez I don't know where you fellas find the time for all this modding and tweaking. Don't you ever sleep !!!!?

The SE5 would be unplayable when it gets "busy". Have you tried to tweak for better results ?
+Tailspin 3 Posted February 1, 2007 Blimey Tailspin ! Slideshowville ! The SE5 would be unplayable when it gets "busy". Have you tried to tweak for better results ? Well, I'm running 98SE and a GeForce 3 Ti 200 and 9 is with everything at Med. Its really not that bad in the cockpit with frames more like 20-25 in "combat". I really don't notice any slowdowns and IMHO the sim doesn't look bad at all....as long as you don't do any side by side comparisons. Just goes to show you 1/2 this game is 90% mental. Hehe I guess I'm spoilt then .... cause I really noticed the jerkiness in combat with the SE5 after flying the D7 for example. It's not so prominent now after a bit of a tweak but it was before when I was getting 25 in cockpit view. You're right about the mental thing ... what you get used to is just the way it is and you accept it after a while. I just hope I haven't planted a demon seed and you go into tweak overload .... be strong Tailspin lol ..... cheers .....
