+kendo353 Posted May 21, 2007 Author Posted May 21, 2007 Does anybody have any plans or pictures of the Sopwith T1, please? torpedoes are working, but the attachment mechanism needs some love. any info appreciated. cheers... Quote
+kendo353 Posted May 31, 2007 Author Posted May 31, 2007 LOTS of planes !!! I like the retro look of them. I hope you can release a demo or beta soon. cheers, Alligator. it's being developed with OpenGL, but it's trivial (a matter of cash money) to upgrade that to a DX9 renderer when the game's finished & good to go. in case you were wondering, the main reason for the lowpoly "retro" approach, is that i can have 30-40 things on screen at once, without a noticable slowdown. i'm doing my best to get a playable demo out to people, but i've been beset with delays from the BV engine developers (seven months, to be precise), and had to go out and work, occasionally. i can't make any promises as to *when*, only that i *will* finish it. thankyou for your interest, it keeps the spirit flowing. appreciated. Hi Kendo, Sorry no pictures or plans! ...but found this little piece of information... by "National Museum of Flight" Sopwith T.1 Cuckoo Mk.1 wings 1918 The first torpedo dropping aircraft capable of taking off and landing on an aircraft carrier deck, the Sopwith T.1 Cuckoo contributed a significant amount to the art of aerial torpedo warfare in the British forces. In 1918, the first Cuckoo built underwent service trials at East Fortune, and as a result was recommended for squadron service. From July that year, aircrews trained in the single-seat biplane for a daring attack on the German High Seas Fleet in their home port of Whilhelmshaven. Training took place off Belhaven Sands near Dunbar, there the Cuckoos would fire their torpedoes at targets towed by destroyers. By the time the Armistice was declared, the first torpedo squadron, No.185 had become operational in October and the aircraft carrier HMS Argus with it's load of Cuckoos was ready for action. No complete Cuckoo survives, the wing sections in the care of the museum are believed to be the largest existing components of this rare and unrecognised aeroplane. best fail-safe  Link: National Museum of Flight Edited September 23, 2007 by fail-safe Quote

+kendo353 Posted September 24, 2007 Author Posted September 24, 2007 Sopwith Cuckoo information Thanks for the info, fail-safe. Gr.Viper sent me the plans, but this stuff is useful too. HMS Argus had a snazzy zebra style dazzle paintscheme ? when i get around to more ships, it's definitely "in". cheers.. Quote
fail-safe Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 HMS Argus Indeed it will be my day  ...when I can put my battered Cuckoo's gear down... on a carrier disguised like a zebra! Link: HMS Argus details If an Alpha tester should be needed... I will be there best fail-safe Quote
+kendo353 Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 on a carrier disguised like a zebra! essential! there's a fair bit of stuff to do before this... but carrier landing code is included in the 'vertigo' flight sim. i'll have a look at it. thanks for the pic & info. Quote

Hi Kendo353 .... how about some splash scenes! +kendo353 Posted October 1, 2007 Author Posted October 1, 2007 cheers fail-safe. there's not very much to smile about in Britain. there wasn't a summer. rhetoric and anti-scientific mumbo jumbo straight out of 1930's Germany was foisted upon us, when smoking was banned in public and privately owned interior spaces. our cattle are infected with god knows what. our troops are involved in two bloody, pointless, internicine wars which anybody with 1/2 a brain cell (or a history book) could have seen the outcome of. it makes me sick to my stomach that nobody gives a damn enough to do anything about it. but you made me laugh. so thankyou very much. +kendo353 Posted October 1, 2007 Author Posted October 1, 2007 sorry for the rant. game wise, things are going OK. maybe not as fast as i would like, but XML support has been bolted in, which should make cosying up with JSBsim a little easier. JG6_Oddball informs me that 'flightgear' has a Fokker DR1 in it, which gives some hope that we can use it as a template. Quote
fail-safe Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Hi Ken No! no! ....You are right  ... thats why we like to get up in the sky I still like to play my very first fly-sim, the old "F/A 18 Hornet 3.1" , from Graphic Simulation... now out-dated in the terrain graphic ... but smooth running ... and fun! If only GS have had some programmers like you to do the upgrading ... what a great game it could have been You seems to be right ... cash alone ... dont do the trick! best fail-safe  Quote
+kendo353 Posted October 2, 2007 Author Posted October 2, 2007 You're from Denmark? I used to live in Viborg, and visited Christiania quite regularly. I heard it got closed down recently, but i still wish that more human societies could be as open minded and tolerant as the Danes. I used to love it when people said "anarchy will never work"... because you could point them to Christiania, and prove them wrong. right in the middle of a busy city... you had an anarchist enclave. truly amazing. Hi Kendo353 Yes Im from Holbæk, and know Viborg, Bjerringbro and Karup...("Fliegerhorst Karup" from WWII) very well ... I have spent a lot of time there fixing fighters  "The Free City" Christiania are still living and in good shape, but had been forced to follow Building and Fire regulations to make their "Free City" a safe place ...almost all Christiania's people had accepted this demand, in order to preserve Christiania "Anarchy" is damn hard to define but the Christiania had shown able to survive for more than 35 year, and that against all odds ...amazing! :yes : Most Dane are a "little bit" proud of The Christiania... especially as the "City" is known from abroad It was very nice to let me know  best fail-safe  Quote
+kendo353 Posted October 4, 2007 Author Posted October 4, 2007 Yes Im from Holbæk, and know Viborg, Bjerringbro and Karup... ahhh.. lovely. it's beautiful up there. even though the temperature drops to -20 and the snow comes up over your waist. ("Fliegerhorst Karup" from WWII) lol.... that's where i was stationed. and "the big hole in the ground" nearby. there was a very strange atmosphere in there. like the nazi's had only just gone away. what did they use it for? i don't recall.. I do remember that it was too big to blow up, without taking out the next village, and thats allegedly why it was left standing (and subsequently re-used). I have spent a lot of time there fixing fighters amazing! what a small world. Most Dane are a "little bit" proud of The Christiania rightly so! it's nice to hope that one day, all of humanity will be as tolerant towards each other. regards to you, fail-safe. all the best. ken Quote

Just a little follow up I think the German build at least three of them, one in Holland (the Netherlands), one near Paris and probably one in Polan? And You are right such big bunkers couldnt be blown... they did a try ...and almost all windows( in a range of 20 km) cracked ! and no harm to the bunker! just one big "earthquake" best fail-safe Quote
+kendo353 Posted October 5, 2007 Author Posted October 5, 2007 wow...yeah, thats the place. I hadn't seen it in 20+ years, but it's instantly recognisable. i'm guessing it was built with slave labour? which may account for the uneasy feeling inside of it. Trawling the net, i also found an article about the Ravnstrup peace camp. It says they infiltrated the war room of the bunker (but the article was in Danish, so i couldnt read it). There wasn't a peace camp when i was there... and i'm curious if they made it all the way in? the war room was right at the bottom, and it must have taken quite an effort, if they did. Is the Ravnstrup bunker still running? or have they closed it down, now that we live in less paranoid times ? I understand that it's probably still classified.. but i'm also relieved that it isn't such a big secret anymore, and that people know that it's there. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Fail-safe. stay warm. Quote
fail-safe Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Hi Ken No slave labour work... but the workers didnt have a choise... at that time there was a lot of unemployment, owing to the war... and if the workers refused to do the job ... then no unemployment relief ! ... or worser they had to go to Germany to take work ! To me all bunkers have a strange oppressive atmosphere, and I dont suffer from claustrophobia ...That constantly singing from the aircondition and the smell of dry air and dust! uff! Regarding the NATO bunker ... in Ravnstrup 1984: Oh! yes ...that was an event... One girl got over the "Nato" barbed wire fence, close to the bunker (by help of a rope ladder and travelling rugs).. promte she started to run as fast as she could ...outflanking some MP soldiers with dogs! in the general confusion ...8-10 more girls got over the fence... and run to the top of the now unprotected bunker...two more girls dig a hole with spades and got under the fence! The police couldn't get in and stop the girls... the main guard entrance was blocked by woman with banners... The police had to use an back entrance, to be honest they didn't show to act over-zealous! One athletic girl succeeded entering the communicating mast at the top of the bunker, attaching and unfurl their peace banner... The battle of the bunker was over 1-0 to the girls peace activist group Epilog: The trespassing girls got a mild fine... no one was hurt... it was mostly a great happening The Ravenstrup Peace Camp or "occupation" of the property (field) next to the bunker was abandoned (1985) a year later ... Then there was only five girl left and the winther was comming up Epilog Epilog: Ten year later (1994) the Girls was officially invited to visited the bunker, the Colonel and the Girls had a good time... no hard feelings, but still different opinions regarding the military budget ... and how the money else could be spent they all separated as good friends The rest is secret best fail-safe Quote
+kendo353 Posted October 9, 2007 Author Posted October 9, 2007 lol... thanks for the reminder. I was there late in 1984 to 86, and now you relate their story, i do remember the banner. (a painted CND symbol with some Danish writing). but there was no sign of their camp. I guess it was back in the woods, and not visible from the main road. nobody ever talked about 'the invasion', and now i know why our drivers always used to go via an alternate route to get to the hole. Thanks for the update. I am glad that it was all peaceful. respect to the women. regards. ken Quote
