A bit of a diversion from haw to add...

I have converted the C-130A into a groundobject and added it to the Range terrain airfield as a ground object. This way they are purely scenery as well as targets. I am not sure, but using them the other way could possibly cause memory problems for low memory computers in missions with a lot of aircraft? Otherwise this is an alternative method for adding static aircraft.

I am having trouble though. No aircraftdestroyed.lod file exists(as far as I know). Also the positioning is a bit tricky, as per th image.

If anyone can help, let me know.

You cannot just make any flyable plane into a true Ground Object. Either you make it into a non-flyable plane using Comprnt's method but they are still true airplanes or you get hold of the 3DS Max model and make changes to make it into a true ground object.

You need to do/have:

- A lower poly model than the flyable plane Main LOD

- Set the plane as it is on the ground at animation Frame zero. Wheel down mainly, but other changes may be needed like cockpit open, etc.

- Set the plane in 3DS Max so the wheels are touching the Z-Axis=0 (the ground level), for tail draggers you may have to do some plane rotation so all wheels are touching the ground. Flyable planes normally have the Z-Axis=0 at about mid-level of the fuselage.

- Reduce the texture skins to a lower resolution, either 256x256 or even 128x128

- Create a groundobject folder and files if you want the static plane available for custom missions

I thought that might be the reason. As for the groundobject file, I did create one following the format from other third party groundobjects. (I am running combined WOV/WOE, so no objectdata.ini to worry about) The parked aircraft in the image are actually placed as ground objects. Also the planes are there every time fly a mission from the Range terrain's airfield! When I destroy the aircraft, it reverts to the targetaircraftdestroyed.lod as that is what I set it to.

As for the 3DMax files, I have no program that can edit them, which will probably end this experiment. I figured it would be a good way to learn ini editting, as I am new at modding. Ultimately, I would have liked to have these as tarped up aircraft, or as otherwise in a state of repair, etc. I would assume a new skin would do this well.

-I have not checked to see if the static AC will be there if I start a mission pre 1956 as per the activeyear I have set in the RangeTypes.ini file.

-Also, I would love to know a good 3D program which doesn't cost thousands and can edit or convert to 3Dmax files, as I would love to create more eye candy for the countryside.
