Hi out there to all the FM guru's !!

Did a lot of searching in archives and knowledge bases, both here and at other sites but couldn't

find the right answers.

At the normal operating altitude in single mission (18000 ft +) the Tu 16 Badger cruises at around 450 kts and the good old Hunter FmkVI (yes, the original one) doesn't stand a chance of intercepting, because not even when diving at the Badger, the speed goes over something like 430 kts.

Apart from that, according to to most of my books, the Hunter does something like 625 kts (M 0.938)at the deck.

By fiddling around with reference area's, CDo's and CDl's I managed to get something like 590 kts at low level and maybe 440 kts at altitude..

So either the Hunter is basically modelled too slow (max speed at altitude M 0.95) or maybe the Tu16 is a bit overmodelled for speed (cruise speed about Mach 0.8, max. speed M 0.91 according to the books)

What would be the best way to cure this, because intercepting bombers with the Hunter in a 1960 - 1965 scenario is great fun with its mighty battery of 4 30mm Aden guns.....

Aju,

Derk
