Looks like my xp2400 is a locked chip at 133mhz. i cant get above it.

hopefully the xp3200 will be here sometime next week.

If it is an XP2400 it is a Thoroughbred "B" & is unlocked.

On an NF7-S (what you've got?) you shouldn't have any problems changing the multipliers to get it to run higher.

1 thing to watch out for is that NF7-S's tend to undervolt the vcore very slightly but it is enough to make a difference for a lot of folk.

Both my XP2400/A7V266-E & XP1700/NF7-S V2.0 run just under 2.3Ghz quite happily with mediocre cooling.

The board i have is the ABIT NF7-S V2.0 with a new bios chip flashed to ver 1.7 bios

I have never OC'd a system before. What few articles i have read, state that you need to raise the FSB untill the system hangs, and then back it off a little

from there they say you make your multiplyer adjustments.

What are your recomendations?

it is currently running at 2ghz

here is my cpu-z report:

Got my board to run a 2100mhz 200x10.5 stable, ive had it up to 2280 but it wouldnt run win xp so im sticking with the 2100mhz setting for now

it runs a xp2400 at 2ghz 166x15 stock. the OC records im seeing is varying from 2700-2900 MHZ on this motherboard with the same chip

im going to try and learn more about the voltages and memory now.

Up the vcore & that should stabilise it. 2.3Ghz is probably about right without serious cooling/mods/ experimentation

Memory voltage might need upped too.

Don't expect to get the same - for that 2.7-2.9 they wiil be running at least watercooled , they may have done some volt-mods etc. too.

Some people put a lot of effort & equipment into overclocking.

I recommend that you brows the ABIT USA & nForcersHQ boards.

I hit 2300mhz with a 200x11.5

i upped the vcore toa 1.8 and ddr to 2.9

so far my gain is 300mhz by adjusting the FSB, multiplyer and Vcore voltage

unfortunately it crashes when i run a benchmark or winxp crashes for a usb failure,

i am leaving it a 200x11 for 2200mhz

trying to figure out some stability here,

with a 1.8vcore and 2.8 vddr

Just noticed in another post that you are running PC2700 RAM.

200 FSB is obviously out of spec for that so it may be that your RAM can't handle the FSB & tight timings.

You might want to relax the timings a bit or try a lower FSB but higher multiplier.

it is 333mhz ddr ram? right now its running att 333mhz and 200x11 for 22oomhz stable. I'll look into it later this afternoon. I was begining to think that the ram was the issue.

What do you recommend?

It is 333Mhz (2x166FSB) RAM but you are running it at 400Mhz (2x200FSB ) assuming that you are running the RAM in sync with FSB (which you want to do as on nForce 2 that gives the best performance).

Im beginning to see your angle. When i first reset the Cmos the bios will show a 1500mhz @ 333 ddr.

After I enter bios, it defaults it to a 2000mhz @266 ddr with a 133x15 setting and recognises this as a xp2400 chip.

i set the pc on a 166x13.5 and it gives me a 333mhz ram at a 2250 clock speed and so far its stable. this has gotten me closer to my speed goal of 2.3mhz

SO I take it your recommending 400 MHZ ram?

By matching my goal of a 200 FSB speed with 200x2 DDR that i can achieve a more stable and faster overclock with aggressive memory timings?

I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel...or PIPE, lol

Well, you get your speed by a combination of FSB & multiplier.

Sometimes you can get a better result with a lower FSB & higher multiplier (although there are benefits to a higher FSB) so you might want to see if it will do 166 x14.

Alternatively, assuming that you are running RAM & FSB in sync you might want to try relaxing the timings on your memory @ 200FSBx11.5 to see if it improves stability.

Btw, how are your temps?

My machine is on the way to Mississippi for Preventer to curse at...

I am sure he will post the marks if he gets it running (I am sure he will), 2.7 AMD, Radeon 9800 Pro and OCZ Matched 3500 DDR Ram. likely be beginning next week til he gets to it :D.

Got your email Buff, will reply tonite hopefully.

Cheers

cpu shutdown temp at 70-C

cpu warning at 65-C

cpu Temp 58-c ( been running for 7 hours)

Stock Cooling, Case has a large Exhaust fan on the Left side.

Raidmax style case.

166x13.5 @ 2250 MHZ

Vcore 1.8

Ram @333mhz v 2.6

I have ran it on a 1.9 Vcore and 200x11.5 for 2300MHZ but she started heating up towards the end of 3dmark2001 benchmark and set off the alarm she was around 67 degrees... Gotta love that cpu temp shutoff feature

Yup you def. need a ram upgrade, for $70 you can get a 256mb stick of Kingston HyperX pc3500 from newegg.com. I have mine up to 217 fsb which is the rated speed for the ram 434mhz (217x2). Mem timings 11.2.2.2.

OK Preventer is getting my machine today...

I hope the 9800 Pro and RAM is Not Toast...

Brand New 2700 AMD arriving there too...

I hope the CPU was the only issue...

Post them marks if ya getting running...

Soda's on the ship til Xmas on Beer if ya do!
